The TS-Optics 70 mm f/5 Flatfield Apo Refractor
The TS 70 mm quadruplet is an ideal traveling telescope for astrophotography. The apochromat offers a fully illuminated and corrected field of 45 mm diameter, so it is also suitable for cameras with full frame sensors. The FPL53 triplet objective corrects the chromatic aberration. The image is free of chromatic aberration on axis and in the field.
Camera connection to the apo
On the camera side, the apo offers an M48x0.75 external thread. From this thread you have between
40 mm and 70 mm distance to the focal plane, depending on the position of the draw tube. So you have enough space for all common astrocameras, SLR and system cameras. If you unscrew the M48 adapter, you will get a M54x0.75 female thread. You also gain 6.5 mm optical path. A 2" filter thread is integrated in this adapter.
We offer suitable T-rings for the M48 thread to connect DSLRs. If you want to use a camera with T2 connection, we also offer the transition adapter to T2.
Connection of 2" nebula filters or L-RGB filters
With the filter drawer TSFSLM48 you can integrate 2" nebula filters and L-RGB filters. The drawer requires only 18 mm optical path. So you will have no focus problems with astrocameras. For cameras with longer working distance (DSLR with adapter for example) we offer short camera mount adapters.
Visual observation through the TS 70 mm quadruplet
The quadruplet is a photo apo. The back focus is not sufficient for 2" or 1.25" star diagonals. The TSZPT2 T2 star diagonal prism allows observation with 1.25" eyepieces. For connection you need:
TSM5475-T2 ... adapter from M54x0.75 to T2 male thread
TSZPT2 ... T2 star diagonal prism
T2i-125 ... 1.25" eyepiece connector
The use of full frame sensors (DSLR and CCD) becomes possible. The adjacent image of the M78 region and the Horsehead Nebula was taken by the 71 mm apo and proves its astrophotographic suitability. 350 mm focal length and the large, very well corrected field are the basis for impressive large field images with higher resolution than typical telephoto lens shots offer.
The newly designed 3" R&P focuser holds even very heavy CCD cameras without tilting. The drawer offers 360° rotation and direct M48 and M54x0.75 connection. This is also sufficient for cameras with larger formats.
The 4-element optical system works more effectively than a conventional combination of refractor and corrector. The optical elements are ideally matched to each other*].

Field report by Jörg Weiskopf:In order to escape the bad weather and to be able to photograph under really good conditions, I had looked for a lighter travel equipment.
I found the new Star Adventurer interesting, because I didn´t want to work only with wide angle or light telephoto lenses. But also with a smaller APO I chose an EQ3 from Skywatcher in the SynScan version, i.e. with GoTo.
The advantage of this variant is the true two-axis control which is autoguider and GoTo capable.
This saves a laptop when travelling, and after the 3 star alignment, the automated approach of the celestial objects is amazingly accurate. The focus finding is done comfortably via smartphone using the qDSLR dashboard. During the alignment I placed the stars in the center of the DSLR image at 10x magnification of the Liveview image. More was not necessary.
The alignment to the celestial pole was done first. This went with the pole search telescope briskly from the hand. Since the GoTo allows fast panning movements, the mount was no longer moved or touched by hand. So the lighter mechanical version of the EQ3 (airworthiness was important) still fixes everything with the necessary accuracy.
Finally, I had the handheld control unit modified with a Bluetooth transmitter unit, which makes it even more comfortable. With SkySafari Plus a very nice addition and remote control of the GoTo is now available via tablet or smartphone.
As optical components I had chosen the recommended TS ImagingStar 71 with a 50mm mini guide scope. The APO is characterized by a good image quality up to the edge corners and also good color reproduction. In addition, it weighs 2.4 kg complete with dovetail bars and is very well supported by the EQ3. Focal length and focal ratio also provide good conditions for successful shots. Single exposures up to 8 minutes have been done without problems - longer exposures were not necessary with F=4.9.
Handling with the mini guide scope and focus scale is comfortable, guiding with the Lacerta MGEN is easy. Both in terms of finding the guide stars and the quality of the tracking achieved. All in all, I think I have made a good choice.

I recently bought your TSQ-71ED from a friend and I am honestly really excited about this instrument. At first I didn´t think that with such a short focal length you can really notice such a good edge correction, but after the first exposure session I was proven wrong - beautiful point-like stars in the very corners of my EOS 6D.
