The UNC Newtonian series from Teleskop-Service offers an alternative to the Far East Newtons
With these telescopes you do not have to make any compromises. UNC stands for Universal Newtonian telescopes with Carbon tube. Each UNC Newtonian is individually manufactured for you and optimized according to your wishes - a telescope Made in Germany!.

The 10" f/4 UNC Newtonian is a versatile and relatively compact telescope for portable and stationary use. The high speed of f/4 makes the Newtonian the ideal telescope for astrophotography. You can expose objects properly in just one night. We recommend an EQ6 or CGEM mount, which holds the Newtonian with good stability even for astrophotography.

The advantages of the TS UNC Newtonian telescopes:
High-quality carbon tube made in Germany with maximum stability - customized manufacturing
Optimized focus position as desired and therefore also best possible illumination
Primary mirror cell and secondary mirror cell improved by Teleskop-Service
Easy collimation of primary and secondary mirror - by hand, without tools
The edge of the secondary mirror is blackened
TS UNCN2-G2 2" rack and pinion focuser with M54x0.75 intermediate thread, also suitable for heavy cameras
The secondary is attached to the secondary mirror mount with the correct offset by Teleskop-Service
94 % reflectivity on primary mirror and secondary mirror for a brighter image
Diffraction limited primary mirror - each telescope is tested on our optical bench before shipment

Every UNC Newtonian is darkened inside

The tube inner side of our UNC Newtonian telescopes is darkened. This prevents reflections and provides better contrast. The TS "Black" anti-reflective paint or a velour film is used. The result is a matte black tube interior. Velour film and the TS "Black" have a similar effect and darken better than the commonly used chalkboard paint.

The illustration shows how dark the anti-reflective paint is. The diagram (at the images at the top of this page) shows the direct comparison chalkboard paint and antireflective paint.

The carbon tube - finest precision work
The carbon tube is extra solid and completely reinforced, not only around the focuser. This makes the tubes much stiffer and the adjustment stability is high. The openings for the secondary spider vanes are precisely fitted with turned mating parts, so we ensure that the secondary spider vanes are correct and the telescope produces perfect spikes right from the start.

Focus position optimized for astrophotography:
The focus point is 135 mm above the tube. This allows you to use different focusers and still have a comfortable working distance. With the standard focuser UNCN2-G2 you even get 80 mm working distance, this even allows the use of focal reducers or a binoviewer with moderate glass path compensation. For standard correctors like the Baader MPCC or the TS-Optics MAXFIELD corrector we recommend the 20 mm spacer, which comes between the focuser. This gives you 60 mm backfocus. For visual observation you need a 2" extension tube - item # TSV235.

The 2" TS UNCN2-G2 focuser:
A core component of the TS UNC-Newtons is the modern TS UNCN2-G2 focuser. The focuser builds up only 58 mm from the tube edge and still carries heavy cameras and accessories without tilting. The focuser is superior to conventional Crayford focusers.
High stiffness with extremely short length
Precise 1:10 dual-speed reduction - for perfectly focused astrophotographs
The adjustment is decoupled from the ball bearing - a clear advantage over Crayford focusers
Can be extended with motorized focus
The ball bearings are adjustable, so the focuser can be adjusted perfectly - but we deliver the focuser already optimally adjusted.
Accessories can be screwed on - the 2" receptacle can be unscrewed, providing you with an M54x0.75 female thread.

Parabolic primary mirror:
Newtonian primary mirrors made of fused silica are free of strain and provide an image that is usually even much better than diffraction limited. The surface is coated with an enhanced 94% reflection layer and a protective quartz layer. The primary mirror has a central marking as an adjustment aid.

Primary mirror fan for faster cool-down:
A fan accelerates the cooling down to ambient temperature. As long as a mirror has not cooled down properly, it generates warm air currents that degrade the image - regardless of which mirror substrate is used. This effect only stops once the mirror has cooled down.

Every TS Carbon Newtonian is tested on our optical bench before shipping:
You are not buying a "pig in a poke" when you buy a UNC Newtonian from TS, but a solid telescope for life. After assembly, we subject each UNC Newtonian to an optical test in our workshop before shipping. This ensures that the telescope will fit perfectly with your accessories and also delivers the optical performance we promise.

Before shipping, the primary mirror with the cell is removed from the tube and packed separately. This way we guarantee a safe shipment and avoid unnecessary transport damages.

Additional focus positions and change of secondary mirror diameter:
The focus position No. 1 with 60 mm above the 2" receptacle has proven to be very versatile. It is the standard position. Nevertheless, we can also offer you individual focus positions and other secondary mirror sizes at no extra charge:
Focus position No. 2: 30 mm above the 2" receptacle - optimal for visual observation or for correctors with focal length extension, such as the PARACORR from TeleVue. The secondary mirror can be slightly smaller.
Focus position No. 3: 90 mm above the 2" receptacle - this allows you to use the TS2KORRR 0.73x reducer/corrector and improve the speed. The combination is then designed for cameras up to APS-C format. The secondary mirror should then be slightly larger.

Ordering the special versions in our online shop:
On the last page of the order process, where you can complete the order, you have a text field. Here you simply copy the desired focus position into it. Please note that this is then a special version with delivery time.

Assembly and collimation instructions
The telescope is delivered disassembled into several units for safety. The assembly and adjustment are not complicated, you can download the instructions in advance. The PDF can be found here.

The new TS Carbon Imaging Newtonian series - a comparison with standard "far east Newtonians":

Meanwhile there´s a great number of Chinese Newtonian telescope that´s claimed as "ready for astro photography". But such telescopes are mass production and therefore in some cases a compromise.

Their main problems:
- high amount of obstruction cause seeing problems because more light energy is distributet into the diffraction rings. Thus resulting to larger
star diameters and less image definition. A too small secondary, on the other hand, leads to less field illumination.

- Too less free aperture due to a too small tube. The result is an increasing amount of off-axis vignetting.

- Focuser drawtubes reach into the telescope causing reflections.

- Too long focusers need a focal plane far outside the tube resulting in vignetting or the need of large secondaries and focusers.

Newtonian telescopes without compromises are normally something for ATM or specialized manufacturers with high prices. Our aim is to offer optimized Newtonian telescopes with the option to fulfil individual demands. The main task of TS Carbon Imaging Newtonians is astro photography with a minimum of vignetting and a minimum of obstruction at the same time.

The background: After many years of own experience in astro photography, we know how far obstruction influences the image definition. Telescopes with small obstruction (less than 30%) show significantly less seeing influence in deep-sky images. The effective resolution - important for lunar and planetary imaging - becomes better, too.

Our new TS Carbon Imaging Newtionan series are the result of these considerations:
A carbon tube has nearly no thermal expansion and therefore nearly no focus drift. We use the Baader Steeltrack focuser because it is one of the shortest precision focuser available. A dedicated motor drive will be available soon. With our optimized focus position, 2" are sufficient.
We offer different focus positions above the tube:
1.: 90-100 mm. Allows good field illumination even with small secondary mirrors. With a 70mm secondary, the 10" model has a 100% field
diameter of 17 mm. On the other hand, DSLR cameras can be used only in combination with the TeleVue Paracorr.
2.: 110 mm. The compromise position for standard applications.
3.: 131 mm: Necessary if the ASA 0.7x reducer/corrector is planned for photography.
4.: Individual position. We manufacture the telecope according to your needs.

Individual size of the secondary mirror
According to the sensor size and the individual applications, you may want a special secondary mirror diameter. After we know the position of the focal plane, we can calculate the necessary size of the secondary mirror. Minor axis diameters of 50, 63, 70, 88 and 100 mm are possible and also intermediate sizes for a special price.

We can fulfil your individual ideas by assembling an optimized telescope for you, e.g.:
- a planetary Newtonian with minimized secondary
- an Allrounder for a wide field of use
- a photo Newtonian with exceptional field illumination for your sensor size
- fast astro cameras with f/3.5 reducer/corrector
