TS-Optics Finder for safe centering of the sun in your telescope

Position the sun accurately without danger for your eyes. The finder has no optics. You simply look to the ground glass and as soon as the sun disc is in the middle, you can start with solar observing or photography.

For telescopes with stubby tube, this method is often quicker than centering via the telescope´s shadow.

And this is how you work with the TS solar finder:

Remove the original finder from the finder shoe and attach the TS Solar Finder instead.

Attach the objective solar filter in front of the entrance opening of your telescope or connect the Herschel wedge to its back side.

Direct the telescope approximately to the direction of the sun. You will already see a small bright disc in the middle of the ground glass. You can view this ground glass from a comfortable distance.

Center this bright disc (the middle area of the matt screen is brighter) and now your telescope directs exactly to the sun.

The principle of the TS solar finder:

The front plate has a small hole which works like the pinhole aperture of a pinhole camera. A small image of the solar disc is produced. This solar disc is projected to the matt screen at the back side - totally without optics and absolutely harmless.

The adjustment of the TS solar finder:

Attach the TS solar finder to the telescope.

Align the telescope (with solar filter or Herschel wedge!) to the sun and center it in the eyepiece.

After loosening the corresponding screws, you can move each of the two discs (black front and matt rear) so that the solar disc comes closer and closer to the center of the matt screen and is finally exactly centered.

Tighten the screws again and the adjustment is complete.

Of course, you can also first loosen only one pair of screws and move the corresponding disk in order to then adjust only the other disk; this prevents unintentional adjustment of the already adjusted disk.
