ZWO AM3 Harmonic Equatorial Mount - GoTo Travel Mount - Mount Head
The traditional equatorial mount requires heavy counterweights. It can be very difficult to keep balance in RA and DEC directions, and also inconvenient for transit and storage, which brings amateur astrophotographers a lot of pain when they are out for imaging.
Some of the strain wave geared drive mounts are relatively simple in functions, insufficient in load capacity, and also not very stable in use.
To solve the above issues, ZWO developed the ASI Mount series. No need for a counterweight. With a self-weight of 4.1 kg, AM3N has a large load capacity from 8 kg to 13 kg. While portability is very important, stability is also essential in use. Instead of blindly pursuing the lightweight of the mount body, ZWO is more so along the lines of stability for an entire use. The internal structure of the body is optimized with the strain wave gear reducer and synchronous belt, bringing more accurate control and an amazing reduction ratio of 300:1. It is also multi-functional that can be used as both an equatorial mount or an altazimuth mount. You can either control the mount via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, or a hand controller.
Portable and stable

Strain Wave Gears for Precision Control
Astrophotography demands both stability and accuracy, and the adoption of a custom-engineered strain wave gear system addresses these needs directly. The gear train is designed to minimize periodic error, provide exceptionally smooth motion, and deliver high torque capacity - factors critical for long-exposure imaging.
Within the mount, a strain wave gear reducer works in concert with a synchronous belt drive, yielding precise control and a notable 300:1 reduction ratio. Each unit undergoes individual testing, and a periodic error (PE) curve report is supplied with every mount, offering users verified performance data for confidence in the field.
4.1 kg Net Weight
Instead of blindly pursuing the lightweight of the mount body, ZWO is more so along the lines of stability for an entire use.
Powerful Payload Capacity: 8 - 13 kg
The mount supports up to 8 kg (17.6 lbs) without counterweights, double its own weight, and up to 13 kg (28.7 lbs) with counterweights, more than triple its weight.
This payload capacity easily accommodates a wide range of telescopes, providing a stable and reliable foundation for your viewing and imaging needs.
About the counterweight: Supported counterweight: up to 5 kg The counterweight should be secured on a counterweight bar of no more than 25 cm in length.
Integrated Type-C and DC Power Ports
The newly optimized design also improves portability by cable management. The dovetail saddle now integrates Type-C and 12 V DC ports to minimize clutter, while a magnetic hex key attaches directly to the mount for convenient storage.
Versatile
Equatorial Mode / Altazimuth Mode
Can be switched via SkyAtlas App or hand controller Equatorial Mode: Suitable for tracking and photographing objects Altazimuth Mode: Suitable for visual astronomy
All-round 0°-90° Pitch Angle
The AM3N features a versatile altitude adjustment design ranging from 0° to 90°, allowing for unrestricted use across both low-and high-latitude regions.
Using Gear 1: Turn the altitude fine adjustment knob for adjustment between 0° and 60°.
Setting Gear 2: We recommend you do this when the AM3N is not carrying anything. Loosen the tension grips on both sides. Rotate the latitude fine adjustment knob clockwise until you can see the hex screws on AM3´s two sides with no obstruction (approximately 45° latitude at gear 1). Loosen the M6 hex screws and adjust the mount to approximately 75°. Tighten the hex screws again. Tighten the tension grips on both sides again.
Using Gear 2: Turn the altitude fine adjustment knob for adjustment between 30° and 90°.
Evolved Portable Control
Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Connectivity
The AM3N features built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, enabling direct smartphone control - no hand controller required. Ideal for travel and field use, just bring your phone and you´re ready to observe or image.
Wireless Control via Mobile Apps
Operate the mount directly from your phone with an intuitive app featuring an on-screen joystick, Tonight´s Target, GOTO, Live Preview, and more.
The mount is compatible with ASCOM, INDI, ASIAIR, and other platforms.
Rocker-style Hand Controller
Comfortable touch and easy to use. Integrated with Wi-Fi network allowing for wireless control. You can easily upgrade the firmware of the hand controller and mount it on the ZWO webpage.
Seamless Linkage with ASIAIR
Experience astrophotography at its best with the ZWO Ecosystem - where every component works together in perfect harmony.
ASIAIR can control AM3 via a wired or wireless connection. The ASI package gives customers the best astrophotography experience.
