The filter drawer is an alternative to filter wheels. It is cheaper, more compact and also lighter. Weighing only around 100 grams, the drawer is particularly suitable for smaller and lightweight telescopes.

Adaptation to the telescope:

On the telescope side, the filter drawer has a T2 (M42x0.75) internal thread. The internal thread is quite short at 2.3 mm. If the connection adapter has a longer external thread, you would have to work with fine-tuning rings to prevent the external thread from protruding too deeply into the drawer and blocking the insertion. T2 fine-tuning rings are linked.

Connection of the camera:

On the camera side, the filter drawer has an M48x0.75 external thread with a length of 2 mm. The thread is accurately cut so that the adapters are held well, despite the short length.

One filter holder is included:

The filter holder is optimized for the drawer and holds 2" filters. The M48 internal thread of the filter holder is 2.5 mm long. This is sufficient for all commercially available filters.

Are there any other holders for the drawer?

Unfortunately, the TSSchub2 and TSSchub1 filter holders from TS-Optics do not fit perfectly, they are a little too high, only about 0.2 mm. As a result, they block when inserted. The width and depth, on the other hand, fit.

But if you still want to use these filter holders, you will have to do a bit of tinkering. You need a thin sheet of foil and a pair of scissors. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the top plate of the drawer with the M48 thread. Then cut out spacers from the foil to fit between the connecting plate and the holder. The ?cover? is then screwed back on. The opening of the drawer is now slightly higher and the other filter inserts also fit. Of course, you can still use the filter holder that came with the drawer.
