Skywatcher Explorer-130PS on AZ5 - parabolic Newtonian on altazimuth mount
Ideal no fuss, grab-and-go Telescope for easy visual astronomy!

This telescope is a simple and high-quality starting point for the hobby of astronomy. The very short and very fast Explorer 130P is a large field telescope suitable for air travel with good sharpness. The parabolic primary mirror ensures a very good image, which is not a matter of course in this class. This enables almost all applications in amateur astronomy.

Observations:

130 mm aperture already collects 30% more light than 114 mm. The device is therefore correspondingly more powerful. Many hundreds of galaxies and nebulae can already be successfully observed.

One advantage is the short focal length of the device. With the TS Super Plössl 32 mm (1.25" eyepiece), a true field of view of approx. 2.6° can be observed. That is more than 5x the full moon side by side. Very nice overview observations of extended objects are possible.

The moon and planets are imaged much more sharply and with greater contrast thanks to the parabolic mirror than through devices of the same aperture with a spherical primary mirror, even if they have a longer focal length. The Newtonian shows lunar craters and fine grooves on the moon as well as the Cassini division in Saturn´s rings under good viewing conditions.

Thin secondary mirror vanes:

Thin secondary mirror vanes minimize obstruction and thus also diffraction phenomena. This increases the contrast and the perception of fine details.

The AZ5 mount

The elegant, well-built and easy-to-use AZ5 deluxe alt-azimuth mount offers excellent stability and precise alignment thanks to fine adjustment via flexible shafts in both axes (horizontal and vertical). In addition, the mount offers worm gears in both axes for precise tracking of stars, nebulae but also slow-moving terrestrial targets. Other optics such as spotting scopes or cameras can also be connected via an optional L-bracket.
