The MESSIER AR-90 does not only provide highly detailed views of the moon: Gaze at the division of the rings of saturn more than a billion kilometers away or explore the Great Red Spot of Jupiter, a giant cyclone in Jupiter´s atmosphere. Watch the seasons on Mars and find the sickle of Venus.

Using a front solar filter, you can observe the sun. The specifications almost completely rule out chromatic aberration, so fascinating views of sunspots and faculae are easily within reach. As the telescope is a refractor, you might use a Herschel wedge which shows more contrast.

Teh equatorial mount makes observing with high magnification easy. As the earth rotates, the sky seems to rotate for us, causing sunrise and sunset. This apparent rotation also causes the objects to to move out of the field of view of the eyepiece - the higher the magnification, the sooner will the object disappear behind the field stop. For compensating this apparent motion, the equatorial mount has to be rotated around only one axis, as this axis is aligned parallel to earth´s axis.

With an alt-azimuth mount, you have to turn two shaft for moving two axes, which distracts from the object for which the telescope was set up.
