Description

Photo Newtonian by GSO - 150mm aperture - f/5 with coma corrector - suitable for all common cameras
... compact Newtonian with good coma correction, 2" crayford focuser, 1:10 micro transmission
GSO photo Newtonian
Why spend more money on an excellent 6" f/5 Newtonian for astro photography? It offers all advantages of a well-designed Newtonian:

-- Parabolic main mirror with diffraction-limited imaging
-- Enough back focus to reach focus even with (D)SLR cameras
-- Very good 2" Crayford focuser with 1:10 micro transmission
-- High-grad correction of the coma inherent to Newtonian systems (coma corrector is included)
-- Good field illumination by adequate secondary mirror (minor axis Ø 50mm)
-- 94% enhanced reflection for a brighter image and shorter exposure times

The robust 2" Crayford Focuser:

The 2" Crayford Focuser with 1:10 micro transmission is included. Accessories are clamped with a brass ring; the standard 1.25" reducer is also equipped with a brass ring. Even under higher loads, the focuser does not tilt. In conjunction with the micro transmission, pinpoint stars across the entire field are the result.

The Baader coma corrector:

GSN 1507

The Baader coma correktor is part of this telescope's standard delivery content. It has a 2" filter thread on the telescope side and a T2 thread on the camera side. If you want to use a SLR camera, all you need is a T2 ring for your specific camera model. Of course nearly any other CCD camera can be adapted, too.

GSO photo Newtonian 150mm f/5

Advantages of the GSO photographic Newtonian compared with f/5 systems with front side corrector lens:

Fast Newtonians must be corrected for photography. This can happen by introducing a Maksutov or Schmidt corrector plate or (like this model) by using a coma corrector close to the focal plane.

A Maksutov or Schmidt-corrector makes the OTA a closed system. The theoretical advantage of reduced tube seeing is not really an issue with 150mm aperture - on the other hand, its high price and the heavy weight of a full-aperture corrector plate is. But a glass plate on the front side gathers dew quite quickly so one needs a dew heater or at least a long dew cap. A classical newtonian has its main mirror deeply inside the tube and the secondary faces inside the tube. So dewing can only occur under really worse conditions.

The open system of a classical Newtonian is an advantage for fast cool-down times because of air interchange in- and outside the OTA. The telescope is ready for use in shorter time.

M31 - captured by Ingo Klever with the GSO 150/900mm Newtonian

This is a full-frame image with only a minimum of software processing. Even in the edges, the star images are okay.
Integration time: 10x600 seconds with the Canon EOS 20D
Coma correction with Baader coma corrector (as described above)
