C9¼ Schmidt-Cassegrain / 235mm/2350mm / with Celestron CAM GoTo mount OTA
(Advanced Serie GT - C9 1/4-SGT)

The C9¼ is more than just an interstage between the C8 and the C11. Compared with other Schmidt-Cassegrain systems, it offers more contrast and image definition thus making this telescope interesting especially for lunar and planetary observation. Celestron has designed this model with the those astronomers in mind who know the advantages of bigger apertures but who also like the sharpness and contrast close to a Maksutov-Cassegrain system.

Celestron has reached this target by a complete new design of the SC system. The C9¼ has nearly the same tube length than the C11. Nevertheless the focal ratio is also f/10. Main- and secondary mirror have a slower focal ratio and therefore not so extreme radii compared with the other short-tube systems. With the same precision of manufacturing, the image definition is better. Of course all C9¼ are individually manually retouched, like the other sizes.

The Advanced GoTo mount by Celestron - CAM:

The CAM carries the C9 with good stability. It is accepts loads of up to approx.10 kgs.

A massive steel-tube field tripod is the sturdy base for the CAM; it can be adjusted for a height up to ca. 140 cm. The mount itself can be precisely polar aligned by fine controls in azimuth and elevation.

The CAM's stability is guaranteed by ball-beared R.A. and Dec shafts and also ball-beared worm gears. Espially the latter equipment is responsible for the good tracking accuarcy and stiffness.

Precise tracking and object positioning, Computer database with approx. 40'000 objects make the CAM to a powerful base especially for astro photography.

Fields of use:
Lunar and planetary observation is a delight with this telescope. It closes the gap between normal SC telescopes and the heavy and expensive Maksutov systems with similar aperture. Deep Sky observations also benefit from the advantages of this telescope. Observe high-contrast objects like star clusters or planetary nebulae with the apertue of a reflector system and the sharpness close to a refractor!

Astro photography with the C9¼ is, of course, no problem either. Photos benefit from the same advantages as mentioned for visual observation. Focal reducers can be used with success and you also enjoy the extreme wide focus range of the internal main-mirror-focuser that allows the use of nearly any accessories like off-axis-guiders, filter wheels etc.

XLT logoXLT coatings: Due to the multi layer anti-reflective coatings, Celestron telescopes have very high transmission values. Especially in the field around 500nm, up to 10% more light can pass. This is the field, where the human eye is very sensitive.
The advantagtes of the Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain System:
No focus problemsThe focal point is moved by adjusting the main mirror's position. This causes a very wide focus range allowing the connection of nearly any accessory parts for observation and photography.
Stiff tubeEven astro photography with long integration times is possible. Due to the short tube design, no bending occurs.
Easy adaptionsThe Schmidt-Cassegrain comes with a GP-style prism rail. So it can be fixed easily to all standard mounting heads.

The C9 is ready for FastStar - with Hyperstar you can change the C9 into a F/2 CCD Schmidt Camera.
