Celestron C8 CAMC8 - Schmidt Cassegrain - 203mm apterture; with CAM German equatorial GoTo mount (C8 SGT)

The C8 in a complete GoTo package for an unbeatable price!

The C8 is the true classic within the Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. Since decades, these telescopes are used by amateurs and Celestron looks back on a unique story regarding the experience with this telescope type. The result is a modern universal telescope with a long heritage.

With 203mm aperture, this model has an impressive celestial performance. But nevertheless, the OTA is with its length of approx. 45cm and a weight of 5.7 kgs highly transportable. We know no other possibility to keep 20cm of aperture that compact.

The C8 already shows the jovian moons as small discs and Saturn's cassini division looks like punched out. Thanks to the XLT coatings, Nebulae and Galaxies are depicted with high contrast and brightness. M13, the famous globular cluster, is already resolved into individual stars.
The Advanced GoTo mount by Celestron - CAM:

The CAM carries the C8 with good stability. It is accepts loads of up to 10 kgs meanwhile the short-tube C8 is below 6 kgs. So there are enough reserves for visual and photographical accessories.

A massive steel-tube field tripod is the sturdy base for the CAM; it can be adjusted for a height up to ca. 140 cm. The mount itself can be precisely polar aligned by fine controls in azimuth and elevation.

The CAM's stability is guaranteed by ball-beared R.A. and Dec shafts and also ball-beared worm gears. Espially the latter equipment is responsible for the good tracking accuarcy and stiffness.

Precise tracking and object positioning, Computer database with approx. 40'000 objects make the CAM to a powerful base especially for astro photography.

The internal focusing system:
The advantages of focusing by moving the main mirror are undisputed. The only disadvange, the main mirror shifting, has been solved by Celestron. No disturbing shifting degrades the focus precision.
Very versatile with the SC thread and the internal focusing:

-- Adaption of nearly all kinds of cameras without any problems
-- 2" eyepieces and diagonals can be attached
-- Binoviewers can be brought into focus without the need of a glass path corrector

Astro photography with the C8:

The Celestron C8 is a powerful tool for astro photograpy. The big aperture of 203mm and the diffraction limited optical system allow impressive pictures of the Moon and Planets. Additionally, we offer a focal reducer / field flattener for this telescope. The following images have been captured with this combination (see also "accessories" and "user reports"):

Ready for HyperStar ... The C8 is FastStar compatible - with the HyperStar Kit you convert the C8 to a f/2 CCD Schmidt Camera.

C8 Cirrus

C8 M27
Dumbbell nebula in Vulpecula

C8 M31
M31 / Andromeda Nebula

XLT logoXLT Coatings: The multi-layer anti-reflective coatings allow very high light transmission. Especially around the wave length around 500nm, 10% more light are brought into the eyepiece. Here, the human eye is very sensitive.
The advantagtes of the Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain System:
Short design2000mm focal length in an only 450mm long OTA result in a compact but powerful system. That's good for the mount and for the transportability.
No focus problemsThe focal point is moved by adjusting the main mirror's position. This causes a very wide focus range allowing the connection of nearly any accessory parts for observation and photography.
Stiff tubeEven astro photography with long integration times is possible. Due to the short tube design, no bending occurs.
Easy adaptionThe Schmidt-Cassegrain comes with a GP-style prism rail. So it can be fixed easily to all standard mounting heads.
