TS-Optics 1.25" Solar Prism with complete equipment for professional solar observation
Herschel prisms are intended for observing the sun with refractors. Approximately 95% of the sunnlight are removed. The rest is available to the observer or photographer. The contrast is usually significantly better than with a lens filter.

This Solar prism from TS-Optics already comes completely equipped with extensive accessories. You don´t need additional filters or adapters for observing or photography.

The advantages of the TS-Optics 1.25" Solar wedge:
Particularly high-quality surfaces for very high contrast
Enclosed housing with integrated light trap - no escaping stray light
Cooling fins for quick removal of the heat
1.25" polarising dilter for screwing into the eyepiece or into the filter for continous adjustment of the brightness without without additional colouring.
1.25" narrow band interference filter dor significantly enhancing the contrast of the solar surface. Especially faculae regions are shown better. The filter has a bandwidth of approximately 40 nm and its transmission peak at 540 nm. Now sun observation is possible with fast Fraunhofer refractors, as the chromatic aberration is removed.
At the eyepiece side, 1.25" and T2 accessories can be attached.

Note: If you want to use the solar prism for photos or videos, black and white cameras have an advantage, as the narrow band filter only allows green light to pass through and therefore only half of the pixels contribute to image formation in color cameras. With black and white cameras, all pixels are used.

For which telescopes is the solar prism suitable:
The prism can be used on refractor telescopes without built-in corrector. Please make sure that the finder is covered or dismounted, otherwise the solar energy will melt the crosshairs.

Cassegrain telescopes (SC, Maksutovs, RC, EHD, ACF) can only be used with an energy protection filter, because the secondary mirror is too close to the focal point of the primary mirror and heats up too much. The mirror could be damaged. The same applies to refractors with a built-in corrector (flat-field refractors) or tele objectives or Newtonian telescopes. Here, too, optical elements are too close to the focal plane and could be damaged. If you want to use these telescopes, an energy protection filter must be placed in front of the optics to prevent the thermal energy of the sun from entering the telescope.

Please note: Herschel prisms therefore must not be used on Petzval systems or other telescopes that have glass in the optical path near the focal point. Multi-lens systems do not pose a problem as long as all optics are only at the front of the objective.

Warning!
Never use the Solar wedge visually without the supplied narrowband filter (already inserted in the receptacle) and the polarizing filter. Otherwise irreparable eye damage can result!

For photographic use, however, you can use the CaK filter linked in the accessories section instead of the narrowband filter.

The narrowband filter can also be replaced visually and photographically with an ND3.0 neutral density filter if you don´t want the image to look green.

Real time video
A TS staff member took a short video of the sun through this Herschel prism with a monochrome camera, which gives the impression very well, except for the color:

Playback as full screen and with adjusted resolution (quality up to 2160p 4K can be set) makes the impression more natural, as the embedded video shows practically none of the details and the air turbulence, which is always present.

"sehr gut"

"I have used it once for viewing purposes and was very happy with the results. I am interested to see what the results will be when using it for capture purposes."
