Skywatcher Explorer-130P - 130/650 mm parabolic Newtonian on EQ2

With this compact but powerful Newtonian, Skywatcher fills a gap.

For many amateur astronomers, 150 mm aperture are to big and the 114 mm models are not powerful enough. Cheap 130 mm Newtonians have spherical mirrors affecting image quality and are difficult to transport.

The Explorer 130P is an airline-transportable wide field telescope with good image definition.

The parabolic main mirror makes a Newtonian possible that is both short and powerful thus making many astromical applications possible.

Visual Observation:

130 mm aperture gather 30% more light than 114 mm. Hundreds of galaxies and nebulae can be observed successfully.

Another advantage is the short focal length of this telescope. Combined with the TS 32 mm Super Plössl (1.25"), a true field of 2.6° can be observed. This is more than 5x the diameter of the moon! Impressive wide field observations are therefore possible.

Moon and planets are depicted much sharper and full of contrast with a parabolic mirror. Even if they have a longer focal length, many telescopes with spherical mirrors are inferior. Lunar craters, fine rimae are shown with the same definition as the Cassini division in the ring of saturn.

The thin secondary spider vanes:

Thin spider vaned minimize diffraction effects thus raising contrast and reception of fine detail.

The EQ2 mount:

The solid equatorial EQ2 mount with field tripod and manual fine adjustment supplies comfortable use. A tracking motor is optionally available. You can find more information about the mount on its product page.
