iOPtron HAE43C-EC with Precision Encoder - a revolutionary hybrid strain wave drive mount
This lightweight mount with high payload capacity will deliver an astronomy experience like never before. Imagine a mount head weighing just 5.7 kg that supports an instrument load of 20 kg without requiring a cumbersome counterweight or counterweight rod. Thanks to iOptron´s decades of experience in developing precision mounts, the HAE43C-EC brings this vision to reality.
Utilizing state-of-the-art strain wave gear technology for both RA and DEC movement, the HAE43C-EC delivers unparalleled weight to payload efficiency. Its black anodized all metal CNC machined body is not only appealing to the eye, it´s a rugged platform that will perform at the highest level for many years to come.
Unique features include an electronic friction break to safely stop movement during a planned or unplanned power interruption.
All "C" versions of the HAE Dual-Mode SWG mounts, which feature both altazimuth and equatorial modes, now have an internal main circuit board and no longer require a hand controller for operation. An HAE43C mount can be controlled by a computer via the USB-C port on the mount base, either using ASCOM/Commander for a Windows PC or a third-party INDI driver for macOS software. It can also be operated with full GoTo functionality using the optional Go2Nova 8411 hand controller.
Precision encoder on the RA axis The HAE43C-EC features a high precision RA axis encoder that delivers incredible tracking accuracy, enough that many will choose to image "sans" guiding.
Weight only 5.7 kg Although the carrying capacity is 20 kg, the mount weighs only 5.7 kg. It is very compact and easy to transport. The lighter the mount is, the more often it will be used.
No counterweights required No counterweights are required even when fully loaded. This is especially convenient for mobile observing.
Balancing unnecessary Mounts with worm gear drives are sensitive to balance. The HAE43C-EC, on the other hand, does not need to be rebalanced when you change cameras, for example.
Astrophotography with the HAE43C-EC Mounts from iOptron equipped with the Harmonic Drive system are only suitable for astrophotography when autoguiding is used. Of course, the HAE43C-EC has the ST-4 autoguiding connector. However, with the HAE43C-EC, guiding may not be necessary at lower focal lengths.
Strain Wave Gear (Harmonic Drive) Instead of worm gears, a new type of reducer called strain wave gear (harmonic drive) is used. Almost no backlash and no maintenance is required. As it is widely used in industrial robots, it is very durable.
HEM and HAE mounts do not have GPS, but they do have Wi-Fi: The mount does not have GPS. Location information can be easily synced using Commander Lite for iOS or Android.
When developing the HEM and HAE series, iOptron weighed the pros and cons of WiFi versus GPS and opted for WiFi over GPS. When using Commander or Commander Lite (ASCOM WiFi version), a GPS module is unnecessary; you can simply transfer GPS data from a smartphone to the mount. There are no issues with lack of internet, WiFi, or cell phone signals in rural areas; Commander Lite can always transfer GPS information from a smartphone to the HEM/HAE mount.
