iOptron HAE43 - a revolutionary hybrid harmonic drive mount
This lightweight, high payload mount offers an unprecedented astronomy experience. Imagine a mount head with a weight of 5.8 kg and a payload of 20 kg without the need for a heavy counterweight and bulky counterweight bar. Thanks to decades of experience in the development of precision mounts, the HAE43 makes this a reality.
Using the latest Harmonic Drive technology for the RA drive in conjunction with the backlash-free DEC worm/belt drive (the mount is designed for equatorial use only), the HAE43 offers an unparalleled weight-to-payload ratio. The black anodized, all metal, CNC machined body is not only visually appealing, but also a rugged platform that will perform at the highest level for many years. Unique features such as an electronic friction brake and position memory allow the mount to safely stop and resume a GoTo slew or continue tracking even after a sudden power failure (no realignment and no re-entering of all data required)
A HAE43 mount can be controlled from a computer, either via ASCOM Commander for a Windows PC or a third-party INDI driver for MacOS software; a SmartPhone or tablet via iOptron Commander Lite or an app such as SkySafari; or a Raspberry Pi device via an INDI driver. Of course, there is also an optional handbox for stand-alone operation, which is linked.
iPolar, the electronic polar finder - optional accessory The mount can be retrofitted with the iPolar electronic polar finder scope for mobile use. The polar finder ensures the precise alignment of a telescope, even if the Pole Star is obscured.
Weight only 5.8 kg Although the load capacity is 20 kg, the mount weighs only 5.8 kg. It is very compact and easy to transport. The lighter the mount is, the more often it will be used.
No counterweights required No counterweights are required even when fully loaded. This is particularly practical for mobile observation.
No need for balancing Mounts with worm gear drive are sensitive in terms of balance. The HAE43, on the other hand, does not need to be rebalanced if you change the camera, for example.
Astrophotography with the HAE43 Mounts from iOptron that are equipped with the Harmonic Drive system are only suitable for astrophotography if autoguiding is used. Of course, the HAE43 has the ST-4 autoguiding connection.
Harmonic Drive A harmonic drive is used instead of a worm gear. It works almost backlash-free and requires no maintenance. As it is often used in industrial robots, it is designed to be very durable.
HEM and HAE mounts do not have GPS, but do have WiFi: The mount does not have a GPS. The location information can be easily synchronized with Commander Lite for iOS or AOS.
When developing the HEM and HAE series, iOptron weighed up the options between WiFi and GPS and opted for WiFi instead of GPS. When Commander or Commander Lite is in use (WiFi version ASCOM), a GPS module is unnecessary; you can simply transfer the GPS information from a smartphone to the mount/hand control. There are no problems with lack of internet, WiFi or cell phone signals in rural areas; Commander Lite can always transmit GPS information from a smartphone to the HEM/HAE mount.
