Baader UFC - Universal Filter Changer

The UFC system from Baader is more than "just" a filter drawer. With the UFC, Baader has created a very versatile possibility of filter adaption for astrophotography. The system consists of four parts:

The Baader UFC system (Universal Filter Changer) closes a large gap. There is no other filter drawer on the market that can be used so versatilely for the most diverse telescope and camera systems with a sufficiently large connection diameter, which at the same time is extremely short, but also accommodates filter sizes up to 50x50 mm without vignetting. These properties are a prerequisite for operating the new, fast optics such as SC/HD telescopes with Hyperstar and the new RASA instruments from Celestron as well as all other prime focus astrographs with suitable filters on which a regular filter wheel would shade too much of the front aperture. In addition, prime focus optics are inevitably equipped with a very short back focus and require a particularly space-saving filter drawer. At the 11" RASA a UFC with a FLI camera ML16803 or with a FLI ML16200 can be used very effectively. Due to their compact and round design, the ML cameras from FLI are particularly suitable for use with prime focus optics. Since Celestron only offers the T2 and M48 thread adapters commonly used for DSLRs for the RASA devices, it was previously not possible to connect a large CCD camera with filter changer.

Versatile - for almost every telescope / camera

In order not to limit the system to RASA, Baader offers suitable adapters on both sides of the filter chamber for almost all cameras and telescope systems. The newly developed S70 dovetail is extremely short and with the help of the large variety of adapters, various self adaptations and larger threads from Takahashi, TEC, Astro Physics, Feathertouch etc. can be used. With an adapter to the SP54 thread, the filter drawer can even be attached to almost any standard DSLR camera lens using stepping rings. This offers many amateurs for the first time the opportunity to take LRGB pictures with up to 50x50 mm filters in front of telephoto lenses on astro-suitable DSLR or system cameras. The UFC system can connect almost anything to anything by purchasing the same basic filter package and then simply selecting the necessary front and rear panels of the UFC together with the spacer rings as required by the chip distance.

For this purpose, we offer a set with matching UFC extensions as well as a S70 VariLock extension that can be infinitely adjusted from 15 mm to 20 mm in order to keep the distance between filter and image plane as short as possible. All components are optimized to get the largest possible passage in front of the actual filter drawer and still be able to precisely adjust the appropriate distance between the telescope and the chip. The filter drawer itself is thus positioned as close as possible to the camera, vignetting by the filters is minimized.
