Description

Baader Hyperion Wide Angle Eyepiece - 24mm Focal Length - 1.25" - 68°

With 24mm focal length and an apparent field of view of 68° this Hyperion eyepiece shows the maximum true field of view at all possible with a 1.25" eyepiece. This makes the eyepiece the ideal choice for all telescopes equipped only with a 1.25" focuser.

Excellent Image Quality up to the Periphery
Baader Hyperion eyepieces were designed for excellent image quality throughout the large field of view. Even with fast Newtonian telescopes the image will remain crisp up to the periphery. The Hyperions are also a lot cheaper than several comparable eyepieces, making them the ideal choice for discerning users who not only wish to get good quality, but also look for an excellent value for money.

Digiscoping / Photography
In addition to their superb visual performance the Hyperions are also ideally suited for photography. Their integrated threads are the basis for a rigid adaptation of your DSLR camera or compact digital camera.

1.25" and 2" Telescope Adaptation
Optically the Hyperions are 1.25" eyepieces. For a more solid grip you may choose to attach them to a 2" focuser. The eyepiece body has an integrated 2" barrel with safety undercut in addition to the 1.25" barrel. Using this barrel will move the eyepiece a few centimetres closer to the telescope, which might be important when on use in a telescope with a tight back focus distance. Warning: Do not use this feature in a 2" star diagonal or prism diagonal! The 1.25" barrel might collide with the mirror!

Specifications and Features for Visual Use:

68° Apparent Field of ViewWith their large 68° FOV the Hyperions are true wide angle eyepieces. They offer a crisp image up to the periphery and a long eye relief for comfortable viewing.
Superb Image SharpnessThe intricate optical layout of the Hyperion eyepieces results in an excellent image sharpness both on the optical axis and up to the periphery of the large field of view. Even in very fast Newtonians down to f/4 there will be only a very moderate degradation in sharpness towards the edge. This is particularly important for Dobsonian telescopes where a larger useful field of view effectively means that higher magnifications can be used successfully!
High Transmission and ContrastHyperion eyepieces feature an excellent multicoating on all glass-to-air surfaces. The lens edges are carefully blackened.

As a result you get a bright, clear and crisp image without distracting reflections or ghost images.
No Kidney BeaningMany wide angle eyepieces suffer from an effect called kidney-beaning. This refers to an annoying black shadow entering the field of view when you move your eye a little out of the optical axis of the eyepiece. The result of this kidney-beaning is that viewing through the eyepiece is much less comfortable.

Baader Hyperion eyepieces have oversized lenses in order to avoid this effect and reduce it to a minimum.
No VignettingThe large lenses offer a constantly illuminated field of view. In many simpler eyepieces you will notice a degradation of the image brightness towards the edge of the field of view.
Suitable for Binocular UseHyperion eyepieces have a large eye relief and a comfortable and "forgiving" viewing position. This makes them ideal for use on a binoviewer. The eyepieces are comparatively large, but most users will not have a problem. The minimum interpupillary distance (=distance between your two eyes) is 56mm. Due to their ergonomic shape the nose finds a comfortable position between the eyepieces.
1.25" and 2" Telescope AdaptationOptically the Hyperions are 1.25" eyepieces.

Specifications and Features for Photography:
Easy Adaptation of CamerasThe 1.25" Hyperion eyepieces have an M42x0.75 thread as well as a recessed M54x0.75 thread. These threads can be used for the adaptation of various cameras.

We offer a broad range of adaptors and stepping rings to the most common thread sizes.
Suitable for heavy camerasSeveral powerful cameras are rather large and heavy. The adaptation to most standard eyepieces is a little risky. The threads of the Hyperion eyepieces are integrated parts of the eyepiece's body. This allows you to attach heavy eyepieces securely.
Large useful fieldThe Hyperion has a large exit lens diameter. The great advantage for photography is that a large field is illuminated. In most compact digital cameras you will be able to take photos without vignetting. In the largest cameras some vignetting will remain, but the effect is as minimal as possible.
