Kendrick 2028-GSO Heater for secondary mirrors of Ritchey-Chretien telescopes

Due to heat emission into the sky, the back of a secondary mirror can become colder during the night, and so the used surface, resulting in the formation of dew. The split secondary mirror heater solves this problem, it is placed around the secondary mirror shroud and heats the mirror moderately.

A flexible, split ring design makes the heater very easy to install. The heating sleeve is simply placed around the secondary mirror shroud and then fixed in place with the adhesive tape supplied. The back of the heater has to be insulated with black fabric tape (user suplied) so that the heat energy only travels in the direction of the secondary mirror. This is the best way to prevent the air from heating up and the associated tube seeing.

The supply line is routed via a vane of the secondary mirror spider, which reduces disturbing diffraction phenomena. It can be attached using black fabric tape (user suplied). Alternatively, the self-adhesive copper tape can be used, which requires soldering but makes the spider arm less thick.
