Starizona 2" Filter Drawer for RASA8
Starizona has developed a filter change system especially for the RASA8 from Celestron. With a diameter of only 78.8 mm, practically no disturbing obstruction is visible through the drawer. The connection threads are exactly in the middle, so that the drawer sits exactly centrically.
Using a small knob, the filter holder can be easily pushed in and pulled out so that no unintentional change of the telescope orientation can occur when changing the filter. Small magnets fix the holder in the optimal position. The magnets are strong enough to prevent slippage, but allow easy removal of the holder for filter replacement.
The knob is required because the filter slider will be completely flush with your camera, leaving no room to grab the filter drawers. Extra filter holders can be purchased separately.
This filter change system will ONLY work with the following cameras on the RASA 8Using the Filter Slider on the RASA 8The optical window in the RASA 8 will stay in place. The filter flider accounts for the extra optical path length of the filter glass.
The filter slider can be installed upside down since the threads are the same on both sides, but it will only work in one orientation. The top can be determined by the Starizona logo being right side up. The drawer itself goes all the way up to the top but does not extend all the way down, allowing the drawer to come out without hitting the RASA retaining ring. If the drawer hits this ring, the slider is probably upside down.
Remove the black 11 mm female M42-threaded ring from the front of the ZWO camera. The red male M42 thread on the camera will then go into the female thread on the top of the filter lider.
Please Note: Some RASA 8 telescopes were shipped by Celestron with a thicker gasket under the lock ring. This makes the ring taller and the drawer can hit the outer retaining ring. If this is the case, you can remove the gasket. That´ll allow the retaining ring to thread down further so the Filter Drawer can come out.
Starizona made a replacement gasket you can install in its place, one that won´t hit the filter slider drawer. Refer to their video showing how to remove the Celestron gasket and install the Starizona gasket:
