"These fine tuning rings are very useful in avoiding locking threads between extension tubes. I also use them to control precise focus distances of my Canon lens as I want to dislodge the lens unreliable manual focus which also protrude back and forth, shifting the imaging train from the optical axis. The stainless steel version is preferred over the aluminium version for obvious reasons. Although thin, it is very strong."
