For serious astrophotographers, an equatorial setup offers crucial advantages:

By aligning one axis of the mount with the celestial pole, the Earth´s rotation is only compensated for by rotation around one axis, which eliminates image field rotation and thus allows longer exposure times and sharper images. Above all, however, this also makes it possible to photograph the zenith without any problems, which is difficult to do with an altazimuth mount - and that is where the observation conditions are best. An equatorial wedge allows you to achieve precisely this alignment - and, together with an autoguider, the tracking can then be corrected even more finely.

In order for the conversion to an equatorial setup to work right away, the software must be up to date and the correct exposure settings must be selected, among other things.
