IDAS clear glass filter

Clear glass filters also enable the use of infrared light. The most important areas of application for the filters are:

Deep-sky photography with reflecting telescopes without corrector: Normally, an IR cut filter is required for astrophotography because lenses or correctors are not corrected for infrared light. The sharpness would be greatly reduced. With pure reflector telescopes without a corrector, the entire IR light can be used, so you gain up to 15 % more light and have significantly more signal with a comparable exposure time.

Luminance images with monochrome astro cameras using reflector telescopes without corrector:

It makes sense to use a filter with the same thickness for the luminance image as for the color channels. This saves refocusing.

Focusing with narrow band line filters: Setting the correct sharpness with narrow-band filters is often difficult. You can solve this problem with a clear glass filter of the same thickness.
