Baader FFB - Flatfield Box for telescopes with apertures up to 600 mm
No more Sky-Flats in Your (Remote) Observatory
The FlatFieldBox (FFB) from Baader Planetarium is the ultimate solution for creating perfect Flats in your observatory, regardless of external light conditions. Available in four sizes (450 mm, 650 mm, 850 mm, and 1250 mm) it covers a wide range of telescope apertures, allowing flexible use with various telescope types.
Thanks to its innovative design, developed specifically for large telescopes, the FFB provides exceptionally uniform light distribution across the entire aperture and spectrum. With the addition of colored LEDs (red, green, blue), brightness differences between different filters can be precisely compensated. This ensures accurately calibrated Flats even with color and dual-band cameras.
The integrated dimming function allows fine adjustment of brightness to optimize exposure times for Flats, without causing any flickering. Exposure time can be reduced to as little as 1 ms, while longer times of a few seconds are recommended for best results.
The FFB offers multiple mounting options: it can be installed on walls, placed on tables, or used in rotating domes. Its sturdy frame, made from 30 mm Minitech profiles, ensures a torsion-resistant and durable installation.
In summary, the Baader FlatFieldBox provides a reliable, secure, and flexible solution for astrophotography.
Cotnrol of the FFB
The control unit (FlatPowerBox) is mounted on the side of the FlatFieldBox. The high-quality dimmer board controls the brightness of the individual color channels. Through the integrated web interface, you can operate and configure all FFB functions, and record your Flats quickly and efficiently with up to eight presets.
The LED power supply provides 12 V, and the input line is protected by a circuit breaker in case of malfunction.
Features of the FFB Full-surface usable aperture - no dark zone in the centre, suitable even for refractors Abundant WRGB LEDs ensure extremely even illumination, even over very large areas Dimmable lighting allows the exposure time for flats to be extended Individually dimmable colour channels for well-balanced flats with colour and dual-band cameras Suitable for wall or dome installation Infinity-mirror technology and multi-stage design minimise brightness gradients at edges and corners Low-flicker output; exposure times down to 1 ms possible (several-second exposures recommended) Covers the full range of broadband and narrowband filters
