You can use your Nikon lenses for CCD imaging. This adaptor allows you to attach most astronomical CCD cameras to all Nikon (Nikkor) lenses. The adaptor converts the Nikon lens to the standard T2 thread. The setup can then be directly attached to a camera tripod or can be placed piggy-back on a telescope using the 1/4" tripod thread in the base of the adaptor.

Which lenses are compatible?

The adaptor is compatible with all Nikon lenses and all lenses made by other brands for the Nikon bayonet (e.g. Sigma, Tamron, ...)

Which cameras are compatible?

The effective optical length of the adaptor is 19mm. This leaves sufficient back focus for almost all CCD cameras and C-Mount cameras, e.g. ATiK, ALCCD, Imaging Source, ... Most of these cameras require only a very small back focus, typically 12-19mm. Between the camera and the Geoptik adaptor you might need to use a suitable T2 extension tube for optimum distance between the lens and the camera.

How to attach a lens to the adaptor:

The adaptor uses a locking ring. Before inserting the lens turn the locking ring clockwise until it stops. Then insert the lens and turn it clockwise in the bayonet. Finally lock the lens in the adaptor by turning the locking ring counter-clockwise.

Hands-on Advice from Teleskop-Service:

EOS objectives (including those from other manufacturers) have a standardized back focus of 46.5 mm from the back of the lens to the camera's sensor. The Geoptik adaptor has a length of 20.5mm. 46.5mm - 20.5mm leaves 26mm of back focus. All you need to know is the back focus of your CCD camera. Often this is detailed in the manual of the camera. If you subtract this value from the 26mm back focus distance you know how long a spacer needs to be between the camera and the Geoptik adaptor. If in doubt it is better to use a slightly shorter extension tube rather than a too long one!
