The Lacerta LIS-5 is a laboratory-level microscope that despite of its interesting price can be compared with more expensive microscopes when it comes to optical and mechanical performance.

As a trinocular microscope, it comes with a photo tube that accepts (optional) cameras.

Design of the fluorescence illumination
The Lacerta Epi-fluorescence microscope works basicly as a incident light microscope which has been expanded from a transmission-type model. The probe is illuminated with violet or UV light by a wavelenght-depending mirror, similar to a metallurgical microscope.

The Lacerta LIS-5 uses a LED illumination which does not contain harmful mercury.

Fields of use
The fluorescence illumination has been invented by ZEISS in 1908. It is very versatile, i.e. for the detection of antibodies, examination of security markings on banknotes and ID cards, and many more.
