TS-Optics 303 mm f/3.96 Newtonian Primary Quartz Glass Mirror with conical back
This high-quality primary mirror is already been used successfully for our ONTC Newtonian telescopes. Now we offer this optics also for the do-it-yourselfer. Mirrors in conical design provide many advantages compared to conventional Newtonian mirrors.
The weight of the mirror is reduced, the Newtonian as a whole becomes lighter, at better stability. The mirror weighs only 4.09 kg.
The mirror is mmounted by the M50x1 thread of the cell. That results in a bearing without any tensions in any position and at any temperature.
The lateral holding clamps are omitted, thus the star images improve significantly.
The mirror has less mass, thereby it cools down much faster. The telescope is ready for use more quickly.
The mirror substrate is fused silica which is comparable to Zerodur and offers many advantages in comparison to other substrates. Above all, this material virtually does not warp during cooling down.
Teleskop-Service has much experience with these conical mirrors, we make our ONTC Newtonian telescopes with them for years. We know about the excellent quality of these mirrors and can guarantee an image which is clearly better than diffraction limited.

Mounting into the tube:
We offer customized primary mirrors cells which we have developed specifically for this mirror. You can find the cell also in the recommendations section - item HSZONTC10Kon. We manufacture this cell tailor-made for you. Of course, the mirror is fully adjustable in the tube, exactly like a "normal" Newtonian primary mirror.

Quartz glass mirror substrate:
Each material has its own coefficient of thermal expansion. This is essential for the mirror´s reaction to temperature changes. The lower this expansion coefficient, the less the mirror reacts to changes of temperature. It is ready to use more quickly and, above all, the focus drift during astrophotography is reduced.

The mirror blank of fused quartz has no recognisable expansion, so it is superior to popular mirror blanks of Pyrex or Suprax, similar to Zerodur. For this reason, a quartz glass mirror is particularly suitable for astrophotography. Due to its excellent surface, we also recommend this mirror for building high-resolution Newtonian telescopes for visual observation.

If you want to have your mirror checked directly by a tester of your choice, we will gladly provide you with our recommendation.
