Color FireWire Camera for Astronomy with IR Cut Filter

The most outstanding feature of the DFK 41AF02.AS telescope camera is its very high resolution of 1280 x 960 pixels. At the same time, the DFK 41AF02.AS is capable of outputting these high-resolution images at a rate of up to 15 frames/s. With the downloadable software IC Capture.AS you save them lossless and uncompressed into an AVI file.

Fast visualization of color images
The visualization of the original data of a color CCD (RAW format) is not very useful. Only a color interpolation leads to the visualization of the image data in one of the common color formats. However, the bandwidth required to transmit interpolated images is significantly higher than that required to transmit the original data. The CCD camera DFK 41AF02.AS therefore allows to switch off the color interpolation and thus to transmit up to 15 color images per second. The color interpolation is then performed by IC Capture.AS on the computer. Of course, you can also disable color interpolation completely and create the AVI files with images in RAW format.

Sony® Color CCD
At the heart of the DFK 41AF02.AS astro CCD camera is the Sony® ICX205AK color CCD. The format of this CCD is 1/2", the resolution is 1280 x 960 pixels. Its noise is low even at long exposure times. The high quality of the ICX205AK allows it to be used in scientific imaging applications.

IR cut filter
Unlike the human eye, CCDs are also sensitive to the near infrared (wavelengths above 700nm). Images from light sources radiating in the near infrared are not always desirable. Therefore the CCD camera DFK 41AF02.AS is equipped with an IR cut filter.
