The PowerSeeker Telescopes
These telescopes are quick and easy to set up – even for the novice. No tools are required for assembly! The collapsible alt-azimuth mounts are perfectly suited for terrestrial (land) viewing as well as astronomical use.
All of Celestron’s PowerSeekers include a full range of eyepieces plus a 3x Barlow lens that provides an increase in viewing power hundreds of times greater than that of the unaided eye!
PowerSeekers are designed and manufactured using all fully coated glass optical components with high transmission coatings for enhanced image brightness and clarity. All telescopes of this series show an upright, non-mirrored image!
The PowerSeeker 127EQ
A Newtonian reflector uses a concave primary mirror at the rear side for gathering light and creating in image; it reflects the light back to the front side where a plane mirror, tilted in an 45° angle, directs it sideways through a hole in the tube wall.
Despite not being a "typical" telescope, this optics has its advantages: Reflection occures independently from the colour of the light, so chromatic aberration, a problem when using refractors on bright objects, is not an issue.
But the most common advantage is the larger aperture, compared to refractors of the same price. More aperture means more area to collect light, allowing the observation of dimmer objects than the common planets, moon, close open clusters and the Orion Nebula. Globular clusters, many diffuse and planetary nebulae and larger galaxies become worthwile.
Future-proof: The telescope has an 1.25" focuser. This is the most common size, so there is a huge range of eyepieces and other accessories available.
The mount
Equatorial mounts are traditional mounts for astronomical purposes. The common type "German Equatorial Mount" (GEM) needs a counterweight for equilibrating the telescope tube, but it has a big advantage: The mount can be aligned to the earth´s axis, making it easy to compensate the rotation of the earth comfortably by turning only one knob.
For keeping eyepieces and Barlow lens when not used, an accessory tray is atttached to the middle of the tripod.
