When used with the Maxbright binoviewer, eyepieces with long focal length might show vignetting: The outer part of the field of view becomes darker, due to a clear aperture of 23 mm at the binoviewer and a field stop of p to 27 mm in the eyepiece.
The extension tube solves this problem by extending the light path, giving the light beam enough path to expand.
It is important that the telescope can provide enough back focus. This is possible with all SCTs and MCTs with main mirror focusing, but not with all refractors and with almost no Newtonians.
Additionally, the focal length of the mentioned Cassegrain type telescopes will change, due to the main mirror focusing.
