An artificial star allows you to perfectly adjust the instrument without having to wait for a good night. Especially advantageous is that you can avoid air turbulence by using the star indoors, for example.

To adjust an optic or to see deviations like astigmatism, coma, a relatively short distance to the optic is sufficient. Since with short distances the focal plane comes to lie correspondingly far behind the focuser, extension sleeves are needed. These extension sleeves can be obtained from us (see recommended accessories).

The aperture error of optics (spherical aberration) is very difficult to check with an artificial star. You should then place the star at a distance corresponding to about one third of the aperture in millimeters as the distance in meters. So an instrument with about 200 mm aperture needs a distance of at least 66 meters.
