TS-Optics 9 mm Super Plössl Eyepiece - 1.25" barrel
This beautiful all-round eyepiece allows already well-resolved observations of lunar craters, but without losing the overview. Even planets already show some details and still offer a charming environment. So this eyepiece is often used to observe for example Jupiter and the Galilean moons.

But with this still universal eyepiece you can also observe smaller deep-sky objects, for example globular clusters. The excellent transmission (light transmission) of the TS Super Plössl eyepieces allows you to go to the limits of your telescope when observing faint objects beyond the solar system.

The TS SP 9 is also very popular for eyepiece projection for the photography of loonar craters and planets. It is especially suitable for slightly brighter instruments (around f/5 or even brighter). In this case the magnification is especially favorable.

Super-Plössl eyepieces from TS Optics - a classic in high-quality design
Super Plössl eyepieces have been very popular among amateur astronomers for a long time. The convince with an effective and proven optical design. Teleskop Service offers this eyepiece type in best possible quality. Super Plössl eyepieces are perfect for amateur astronomers who put emphasis on a good image which is also as bright as possible.

The advantages of the TS Super Plössl eyepieces at a glance:
Significantly better workmanship than standard eyepieces which often have only 2-3 elements.
No "tunnel vision" through 52° apparent field of view.
Multi-coated on all air-to-glass surfaces for maximum contrast and a bright image
Blackened lens edges to prevent reflexes
1.25" barrel with thread for 1.25" filters - fits also to your telescope
Foldable rubber eyecups - ideal against stray light and as a safe rest for your eyeglasses (no scratches)
Rubber armour for a safe grip (from 20 mm focal length upwards)

TS-Optics Super Plössl eyepieces for astrophotography
High contrast and fine internal blackening make the TS Super Plössl eyepieces suitable also for astrophotography. Focal lengths up to 20 mm can be used very well in eyepiece projection adapters.

One special feature of the TS Super Plössl eyepieces:

You can remove the rubber eyecup and directly attach the FotoringT2 (see optional accessories). Thus you make an effective projection eyepiece with T2 connector out of every TS Super Plössl eyepiece.

By suitable adapters, you can now connect your DSLR or compact digital camera.

For digital cameras with permanently attached lens we recommend especially the focal lengths between 25 mm und 40 mm. For classic eyepiece projection, the focal lengths between 9 mm and 20 mm are more appropriate.

TS-Optics Super Plössl eyepieces offer a particularly bright image

For successful observations, it is often essential how much light reaches the observer. Especially when watching weak nebulae and galaxies, the light transmission often makes the difference between visible and not visible.

TS Super Plössl eyepieces offer a very well balanced transmission. They have no colour cast. Especially in the range where the human eye is very sensitive, TS Super Plössl eyepieces also provide maximum brightness (see image at left). This guarantees maximal successful observations.

A comparison of the TS SP 6mm and other eyepieces - by an amateur astronomer

I do not have very much experience yet, but I try a quick comparison:

In this night the seeing conditions were excellent (1-2 on the usual scale). The telescope was a GSO Newtonian 200/800mm.

The first eyepiece was the Antares 5.7mm W70. Already during a short earth observation I recognized its "nervous" viewing position. This was confirmed during plantary observation. Looking not exactly in the center of the eyepiece the border constantly came into the field of view. The fun of observation suffered noticeably. In addition the sharpness towards the edge was unsatisfactory. So away with it.

Next came the BAADER Eudiascopic 5mm. The viewing was noticeably smoother. In addition the sharpness of the image nearly up to the edges and the brightness were very good. I could easily recognize the Cassini division in the rings of Saturn. The moons were pin-point. The eye relief is good (no crawling into the eyepiece is necessary).

Finally I took the TS SP 6mm out of the the eyepiece case. Contrary to the first planet observations, with which I had been disappointed a little, the TS showed almost no weaknesses in this evening. The image of Saturn was absolutely clear before my eye. Cassini division and moon showed as recognizable with the BAADER. Image sharpness was almost as good as the Baader eyepiece. The viewing comfort is similarly good, only the eye has to get closer for viewing the entire field of view. In this evening I realized how important the seeing really is.

As an unprejudiced beginner I had actually expected substantially larger differences between the eyepieces. If I had to make a ranking, the ANTARES would be the last by far. The BAADER maybe would have earned the first place in terms of quality, but regarding the large price difference I would prefer the TS SP.

(My first thought about the eyepiece case was that it was a typical marketing gag. However, now I became aware how much money I saved with it.)

By the way, the impressions described above were also confirmed by my 12 years old son..

Transmission - A comparison between the TS Super Plössl and a TeleVue Panoptic:

For observing faint objects the transmission of an eyepiece can be crucial. It can also be important to know how much light is transmitted in each wavelength, i.e. which parts of the spectrum pass the eyepiece almost unhindered and which parts are largely blocked.

Inside each lens virtually no light is lost. The loss occurs in the transitions between air and glass, and the transmissions back from glass into air. To minimize this loss at the "glass-to-air-surfaces" an anti-reflective coating is used, but coatings can be very different in quality and effect.

We had the eyepieces tested by an independent tester with professional transmission testing equipment. Of course we cannot test all eyepieces available, but the eyepieces we already had tested allow us to do comparisons with other, untested eyepieces.

The spectral curve:

The transmission should always be judged based on the spectral curve. For example a high transmission in the red part of the spectrum is almost no use during the night, because at night the human eye has only a very low sensitivity in the red part of the spectrum. By contrast, the green wavelengths are particularly important because this is where the eyes are most sensitive.
.

Colour Wavelength % Sensitivity
Blue 450 nm 45 %
Green 500 nm 100 %
Yellow 550 nm 40 %
Red 650 nm 10%

This table demonstrates that a mere statement of the peak transmission without relation to the wavelength is virtually useless. An eyepiece might have an extremely good transmission in the red wavelengths, but in actual usage it might be very dim!

TELE VUE Panoptic 15mm
Peak transmission 88%

TS Super Plössl 32mm
Peak transmission 98%. Very good transmission in the green part of the spectrum
