Hutech IDAS LPS-P3 Light Pollution Suppression Filter - 36 mm Round Filter, unmounted
IDAS LPS filters have been specially developed for astrophotography. On the one hand, they eliminate the sources of artificial stray light and still leave the natural color. This is exactly what distinguishes these filters from almost all UHC filters in the field of astrophotography. UHC filters are optimized for visual use and cause a coloration of the sky background during photography. Pure stray light filters, on the other hand, are often not effective enough.

Main features of the IDAS LPS-P3 nebula filter:
Specially designed for photography with recent single-shot color astro cameras - the color balance was designed for this purpose.
Very well suited for other color cameras (CCD/CMOS and DSLR) as well.
Very well usable also for the luminance channel with monochrome cameras
High quality antireflection coating - anti-reflective layer
Particularly scratch-resistant hard coating
Absorption of urban stray light (mercury, sodium vapor lamps) and nightglow
Optical notch filter: the areas between the disturbing lines are mostly transmitted, in contrast to deep sky filters for example. As a result, there is less light loss.
Blocks UV and NIR until 1200 nm more strongly than previous models - better effect with today´s Sony STARVIS sensors
Peaks higher and smoother than with previous models, stronger blocking
Made in Japan

Exposure time extension - factor 2:
The IDAS LPS allows an exposure time extension by a factor of 2 due to the specific blocking of the disturbing mercury lines and the area around the sodium D-lines. However, the important lines in the deep sky area (e.g. H-alpha and O-III) are transmitted to more than 95%.

Put simply, you can expose twice as long until the sky background comes through, but the object will appear much stronger and more contrasty against the background than without the filter.

Suitable objects:
Not only diffuse nebulae and planetary nebulae can be successfully increased in contrast with the IDAS nebula filter, the balanced color behavior also allows images of star clusters and galaxies. This can produce images that are more reminiscent of a dark country sky, even from the vicinity of cities.
