Baader Hyperion Fine-tuning Ring M48, 28 mm long, for Baader Hyperion eyepieces
The ring serves two purposes:
Increase the magnification of Hyperion eyepieces by up to about 40%: Screw the extension ring between the lower element of the Hyperions and the eyepiece body and the focal length of the eyepiece is shortened by up to about 40%. The magnification increases accordingly.
Use as M48 extension ring: Especially in astrophotography it is often necessary to create a precisely defined distance from the corrector to the camera sensor, this ring helps.


More about the variable focal lengths with the fine-tuning rings
With Baader´s 2" finetuning extension rings 14 and 28 mm, alternatively with the 2" Baader eyepiece filters (8 mm height), you can put together a variety of additional Hyperion eyepiece focal lengths yourself at very moderate prices. Without any loss of sharpness, a 5 mm eyepiece can be transformed into the focal length of 2.6 - mainly because no additional lenses are introduced into the beam path, as would be unavoidable with an additional Barlow lens.

For the low price you can do such an experiment - and check what the telescope does without an additional Barlow lens if you leave the recommended magnification range.

Some surprising discoveries result - especially with refractors! Here the exit pupil of real apochromats may be considerably smaller than recommended in the whole literature!

The fine-tuning rings can also be combined with each other, resulting in an "optical length" of 42 mm!

Attention: The eyepieces can only be separated at one point without damage, namely at the M48 thread at the upper end of the 1.25" barrel. Separation at any other point is improper handling and will invalidate the warranty.

After unscrewing you will see that the inside of the eyepiece body is coated with an adhesive layer. This layer permanently binds dust and ensures that it does not accumulate on the lens surfaces. So if you notice a dust particle on a lens, just screw on the finetuning ring without trying to remove it. There is a high probability that the particle will get on the adhesive layer and stick there, so it won´t bother you anymore.

Change of focal length
With the Hyperion extension ring 28, the eyepieces get the following focal lengths:

Hyperion 3.5 gets the new focal length: 2.4 mm
Hyperion 5    gets the new focal length: 2.8 mm
Hyperion 8    gets the new focal length: 5.6 mm
Hyperion 13  gets the new focal length: 9.2 mm
Hyperion 17  gets the new focal length: 12 mm
Hyperion 21  gets the new focal length: 14.9 mm

"Montage einfach Okulare werden allerdings für die direkte Verwendung in 2"" Zenithspiegeln evtl. zu lang, 1,25"" Hülse stößt ggf. am Spiegel an. Bei Verwendung des 1,25""/2"" Adapters aber kein Problem."
