Orion Glass Solar Filters
Solar filters from Orion allow safe solar observation. The sun image is reduced to about the brightness of the moon and appears in a pleasant yellow/orange tone. The dangerous solar heat and UV radiation does not even get into the telescope. Thus, the inside of the telescope cannot be damaged and, of course, your eye remains completely protected.

What can I see on the sun:
Observe gigantic sunspots, some larger than the Earth. Follow the changes of the spots, for example how they form groups. Discover the granulation of the sun, a granular structure of the surface or cast your gaze on bright faculae that become visible at the edge of the sun.

Of course, the filter is also suitable for photography. The exposure times are so short that the seeing, i.e. the air turbulence, is frozen.

When observing the sun, please always keep in mind:
Never look at the sun without protection, even with the naked eye.
Use only professional solar filters that come in front of the telescope and cover the complete aperture, such as this filter. Eyepiece filters for solar observing are not recommended.
Don´t forget the finder scope when observing the sun. Cover it or equip it with a suitable solar filter as well.

Additional warning for truss tube telescopes:
When using a truss tube Dobsonian telescope for solar observing, always use a light shroud and a properly sized solar filter. When you install the light shroud make certain there are no gaps between the shroud and the telescope where direct sunlight can reach the telescope mirror. When a truss tube telescope (equipped with a solar filter but no light shroud) is pointing near (not at) the Sun, direct sunlight can hit the mirror and focus on the solar filter or other portions of the telescope. This can lead to eye injury or damage to the telescope. Using a light shroud protects your telescope from peripheral sunlight.
