High quality polar finder to screw-in

A polar finder makes aligning the mount easy. Within some minutes you achieve a precision good enough for astro photography. All you need is a free view to Polaris.

This polar finder is simply screwed in the back end of the mount´s RA axis. Compared with often expensive original parts, this model is an interesting and high-quality alternative.

It fits to mounts like these:
Celestron Advanced Mount and Advanced VX Goto Mount (ADM / CAM) and CGEM
Vixen GP mounts
Skywatcher EQ5, H-EQ5 & EQ-6 (not EQ3 or EQ3-2)
Orion Sky Scan Pro

and many more

Easy to use (example for northern hemisphere):

After a coarse alignment, Polaris is positioned on the inner circle in a way that it is touched by an imaginary line from the central cross to a real star called Kochab - ready!

There are also some units with a different reticle, for these there is a separate manual as PDF: pfgp-reticle-engraving.pdf

Suggestions for light-polluted skies or limited view:

With lower requirements, it is possible to do the alignment in twilight: Use an appropriate astronomy app on your smart phone or tablet PC, but hold the device correctly. Polaris is bright enough to bee seen in the polar finder if the mount is roughly aligned to the polar axis via bubble level and compass.

On request, you can get a construction manual for a simple device, similar to a rotatable star chart, which helps to get the right postion of polaris without any constellations. It works only on the northern hemisphere, as Polaris has to be visible.

You can get the device faster by downloading the PDF file:
Download the template: Polsucher-Einstellscheibe.pdf
Print it out.
Stick the printout on cardboard.
Cut out the two parts.
Make a hole in the middle of both discs.
Place the small disc on top of the large disc, scale up.
Connect the two parts with a brass fastener / split pin.

Correct position of polaris:by position of a star (no scales necessary)
Usable at southern sky:yes
Diopter correction:yes
Connection thread:M28x1 male thread
1 Polar Finder Scope

Hint for users of the Advanced VX:

The PFGP fits into the polar axis, but you cannot attach the black cover, due to the silver date scale.

As the AVX does not have an hour dial, the date scale of the PFGP is obsolete, too, and can be removed after detaching the retaining ring between scale and eyepiece.

Now, the PFGP fits into the AVX in a way that the cover can be attached again.
