Due to heat emission into the sky, the back of a Newtonian secondary mirror can become colder during the night, and so the used surface, resulting in the formation of dew.

A heater can prevent from this problem, but sometimes a thin stalk, to which the mirror ist glued, can be a problem, as elliptical heaters cannot be used and to much heat ist lost with wrap-around types.

The split secondary mirror heater solves this problem, as the flexible material is split and can easily placed around the stalk. Glueing is done with silicone, glue or double-sided adhesive tape (all not included).

This heater works will with secondary mirrors of around 75 mm (3.00") or larger. The heater warms the mirror slightly above ambient temperature and clears away dew or condensation. Once the mirror is cleared, you can leave your Kendrick controller on at a low power setting (about 10%) and the mirror will remain free of dew. In extreme conditions you can increase the power as needed. These heaters are very efficient at converting electricity to heat and very little power is required.

A thermal insulation reduces heat dissipation into the environment.
