The ring allows the adaptation of Nikon F mount cameras to T2 (M42x0.75) connections with minimal backfocus. The adapter itself is only 1 mm high, but fully integrated into the camera body.

Nowadays the M42x1 thread is rarely used in photography. This thread has become popular through Praktika and Zenit cameras from the DDR and the Soviet Union. These threads are easily confused because they have the same diameter. The M42x1 thread has a pitch of 1 mm compared to T2 (0.75 mm). T2 rings fit M42x1 threads very poorly, about 1/2 rotation.
