Explore Scientific 20" Dobsonian Telescope with Truss Design - Generation II
Dobsonian telescopes offer maximal optical performance with especially easy handling at the same time. No other telescope offers so much light for the money. With the Ultra Light Dobsonians, Explore Scientific has created modern and transportable telescopes which can be set up within a few minutes and offer a fabulous optical performance under the starry sky.

For many people, this Ultra Light Dobsonian with 500 mm aperture surely is the maximum of aperture which still can be transported. The observing experience with such a powerful telescope far away from the disturbing illumination of towns is unique. Countless deep-sky objects show structures like on a photograph and even colors can already be seen. Planets and the moon become an unforgettable experience.

Features of the Explore Scientific 20" f/3.6 Dobsonian at a glance:
Truss Dobsonian in aluminum design for optimal longevity - manufactured in Germany and Hungary.
Quartz glass primary and secondary mirror with test certificate.
Large secondary mirror with 120 mm minor axis for very good illumination also with 2" eyepieces.
Laser engraved center mark fascilitates the adjustment which can take place during observation.
Primary and secondary mirror have a 94% reflective coating which is protected by a quartz layer.
Setup and dismantling can be done by one person without tools within a few minutes. The telescope is ready for use after a short time.
The 2.5" HEXAFOC focuser with 1:10 dual speed allows using 2" wide angle eyepieces or coma correctors.
The tube is so stiff that it even can be set attached to a stable equatorial mount. The mirror cell is also desigend for being used on an equatorial mount.
Additional fans in the mirror box reduce the cooling-down time significantly and transport the heat quickly out of the mirror box.
Solid bearing in azimuth and large altitude wheels ensure very fine motion even at maximum magnification.
The maximal viewing height for observing in the zenith is 1.63 m, a ladder is not necessary for observation.
The 8x50 finder is equipped with an illuminated crosshairs eyepiece.
The telescope is prepared for mobile usage. All parts can be transported easily and have space even in a subcompact car.
Extended warranty of 5 years possible after online registration.

Quartz glass mirror substrate:
Each material has its own coefficient of thermal expansion. This is essential for the mirror´s reaction to temperature changes. The lower this expansion coefficient, the less the mirror reacts to changes of temperature. It is ready to use more quickly and, above all, the focus drift during astrophotography is reduced.

The mirror blank of fused quartz has no recognisable expansion, so it is superior to popular mirror blanks of Pyrex or Suprax, similar to Zerodur. For this reason, a quartz glass mirror is particularly suitable for astrophotography. Due to its excellent surface, we also recommend this mirror for building high-resolution Newtonian telescopes for visual observation.
