Moravian G3-16200 CCD Camera
The G3-16200 CCD cameras from Moravian offer very good performance on almost all amateur telescopes for astrophotography. With a diameter of 35 mm, the camera can still be used with stable 2" eyepiece extensions and corresponding correctors. The resolution with 16MPx and 6 µm pixels enables the imaging of fine object details with a large field of view at the same time. The G3-16200 is the ultimate camera for virtually all amateur telescopes.

Features and benefits of G3-16200 cameras:
Easy adaptation to the telescope or to the telephoto lens - suitable adapters can be found in the accessories section.
Filter wheel for seven 2" filters optionally available
Mechanical shutter (optimal for darks)
Enhanced 2-stage Peltier cooling up to 50 °C below ambient temperature
Exposure time from 200 ms to arbitrary
Camera sensor KAF-16200 with high sensitivity (quantum efficiency about 60% - good sensitivity also in the red range)
Pleasant aspect ratio 27.2 x 21.8 mm or 5:4 - for best possible illumination even with 2" connection

Adaptation to the telescope:
The G3-16200 BW camera comes standard with an M68x1 (ZEISS style) telescope end connector. The distance from the M68 female thread to the camera sensor is 30.5 mm.

Use with external filter wheel: We recommend the filter wheels CCD-EFW-3S-7 (7* 2", 7* 50 mm, 7* 50,8 mm), CCD-EFW-3L-7 (7* 50x50 mm) and CCD-EFW-3L-9 (9* 2", 9* 50 mm, 9* 50,8 mm) - all currently not in the store, so please ask. The filter wheel is screwed directly to the camera. The working distance is now 33.5 mm + 14 mm of the M68x1 adapter.

As an alternative to a Moravian filter wheel, the Baader Universal Filter Changer System (UFC) can also be used. For the UFC base BA2459110 you need e.g. the M68x1 camera adapter BA2459118 and our reverse adapter M68a-M68a to connect the camera.

Usage of off-axis guider: You can now adapt a suitable off-axis guider. We recommend the TSOAGM68, which fits directly to the M68 connection thread of the camera or filter wheel.

Difference sensor Class 1 and Class 2
In principle, the results after deduction of the darks and bias will not differ. The defects (hot pixels, clusters, ...) can be removed by DARKS.

Class 1:
Less than 2,000 hot pixels.
Less than 40 clusters (areas with multiple adjacent pixels)
No column errors (columns - more than 10 pixels)

Class 2:
Less than 2,000 hot pixels.
Less than 40 clusters (areas with multiple adjacent pixels)
Less than 15 column errors (columns - more than 10 pixels)

Good storage is an important preventive measure against dew and also extends the service life
After use, put the camera straight into the TS Protect Case and add some silica gel. During storage, the silica gel absorbs the moisture from the camera. At the same time, the penetration of moist room air is prevented. Dry storage can even partially regenerate the small desiccant tablets in cooled cameras. Your camera or accessories are always ready for you in optimum condition. You can find the silica gel and the case in our product recommendations.

The cameras are not airtight, so if the camera remains on the telescope, it is exposed to moisture. The small amount of desiccant in the camera can protect the sensor and the inside of the protective glass from moisture for the duration of the exposure, but not for days on end. Moisture problems can be the result. A simple trick is to stretch a plastic bag around the focuser to which the camera is attached so that no air can get in. Silica gel is placed in a small cloth bag inside the plastic bag. This will also create a "dry climate zone" for the camera on the telescope. This allows you to leave the camera on the telescope for a few days for an imaging session lasting several days.

In the medium and long term, however, this is no substitute for proper storage in an airtight case with silica gel.
