Briefly description:

Dew shields prolong the tube to the front side and reduce the risk of dewing/icing. Additionally, a dew shield prevents straylight from entering the optical system.

For transport, the flexible dew shield is simply pushed over the OTA - so it needs no additional space and protects the telescope's surface.
