This is the most portable 8" GoTo telescope from Celestron.

The NexStar 8SE was optimized for maximum ease of use and excellent portability - even airline travelling is possible with this instrument. Despite this the optical performance has not been sacrificed. The NexStar 8 SE packs an optical performance comparable with several much more expensive and/or much less portable instruments!

Every amateur astronomer will confirm this: With an 8" (200mm) telescope you will cross a boundary beyond which thousands of objects become visible. The optics do not only show countless beautiful details on the moon and the planets - as a smaller achromat of 120mm aperture or a Newtonian of 150mm aperture possibly could show too. Given good "seeing" (a term that describes the negative influence of the Earth's atmosphere on visible detail) the NexStar8SE will show small discs instead of just points of light where the moons of Jupiter are. With the proper filters cloud structures in Venus' atmosphere can be seen!

On top of that the large aperture of the Celestron Nex Star 8 collects enough light so that you can see thousands of deep sky objects in detail - galaxies will reveal their spiral structure, planetaries and gas nebulae will show lots of detail and globulars are often dissolved into single stars

The optical performance of a telescope can only be utilized if you actually find the object. The NexStar GoTo mount will guide the way and slew to the object directly.

Sky Align - Your Easy Way To The Stars

GoTo capable telescopes take a lot of the responsibility off your shoulders. They will automatically slew to thousands of objects, leaving you the time to do what you're out to do for: Observing! Each GoTo telescope must be aligned before it can be used properly. This procedure used to be complicated and required knowledge of at least a couple of dozen brighter stars. With Celestron's revolutionary new Sky Align this procedure has become ultra-simple:

Step 1 ... Just enter date, time and observing location.
Step 2 ... Point the telescope at three bright stars - you don't need to know which stars they are! Even planets and the moon will work.

Once you have finished this simple procedure you are ready to start observing. The telescope will slew to any object you might fancy within a moment's notice, driven by powerful servo motors.

Additional flexibility: You can change the instrument according to your needs:

You can directly attach other instruments to the NexStar mount. The instrument only needs to have a Vixen-style dovetail plate (available separately if you don't already have one) and a short enough tube length.
