Description

Baader UHC-S filter2" UHC S Filter (Nr. 245 8276)

The Baader UHC (Ultra High Contrast) Filter allows visual and photographical observations of faint nebulae even from suburban locations. The unwanted straylight caused by electrical illumination is reduced while natural emission light sources can pass the filter.
The Baader UHC filter is optically polished for maximum optical quality.

Fields of use:
The Baader UHC-S filter can be used with nearly any telescope. Especially with smaller apertures good success can be achieved because this filter is broad-banded. Astro photography is also possible. In opposite to many other filters, the Baader UHC does not give too much false colour. See the picture on the bottom of this site!

The transmission curve:

Baader UHC-S transmission curve

The transmission curve shows: The typical lines of human-made straylight are nearly totally blocked. UV light is also blocked.
But the following lines can pass easily:

H-Beta Line (486nm)
Horsehead nebula, California nebula...

O-III Line (501nm)
Planetary nebulae like Dumbbell nebula, M57...

H-Alpha Line (656nm)
Gas nebulae like the "north america nebula" (NGC7000)

This filter shows more contrast and brightness compared with standard nebula filters.
It is dielectrical coated and therefore resistant against aging. It is also very robust and scratch-proof. Additionally, maximum optical quality is guaranteed by plano-optical polished surfaces.
