"I put my new Dobsonian telescope from Skywatcher into operation last weekend. The parts are excellently packed. Already when unpacking I had the impression that the parts are all very solid and robustly manufactured. After everything was mounted on the trolley (see below), the optics were adjusted. Contrary to other assumptions, the optical axis and the focus remain absolutely stable after retracting and extending ("Flex-Tube" principle)! I used the adjustment laser once, now it is back in the storage box.


For the Skywatcher Skyliner 350P SynScan I found a practical solution to handle this heavyweight comfortably even at my age.


For this purpose I had a rail with an adjustable trolley built ...


... on which the Dobsonian can easily be driven out of my rocker box.


The circular base plate of the rocker box is ´storm-proof´ connected to the trolley, and the U-rail also has guides at the bottom so that lifting off the rail is impossible. The part of the rail lying inside the cabin can be folded outwards, so that it does not become a tripping hazard at night


The Skywatcher Skyliner 350P SynScan - 355 mm (f/4.5) Dobsonian is a great instrument after four nights of observation. The control is a piece of cake. With the very precise levelling I have only once performed a 2-star alignment. The control also allows me to park the telescope in such a way that when I push the telescope in, nothing hits the ground (focuser or finder). After pushing the telescope out again and extending it (in this case balls with steel springs snap precisely into holes in the rods in the three guide tubes) I switch on the control, enter the time and drive directly to the object of desire. In the 20 mm eyepiece, 3/4° field, I always have the objects in the eyepiece, even at low elevations; because the control even has a refraction correction! If you loosen the clamping wheels of the azimuth and elevation axes, you can also quickly tilt the telescope manually. The built-in encoders always know where the telescope is positioned. If you tighten the clamping wheels again, the telescope finds the target object by GOTO just as precisely as if it had been driven there completely by motor. Simply ingenious!

I attached a magnetic sliding weight to the tube to relieve the motor of the elevation drive in every situation. Together with the levelling, the operation of the telescope (GOTO and tracking) is absolutely reliable and precise.

The view of the objects is magnificent! At M51 you can easily see the spiral arms, M57 and M27 show their colour, and at the globular clusters you could think you see a ´half h + chi Persei´. Planetary photography is coming soon, which can be done very well with this instrument (I own a ZWO ASI 178MC).

Conclusion: a telescope that is a lot of fun. It has exceeded my expectations.

I use it diligently while inside the camera works on the Maksutov/Newtonian.

The whole thing could only be realized because the rail with trolley lets me transport the telescope quickly outside. With a total weight of 73 kg I could have otherwise buried my Dobsonian plans."
