Celestron Advanced Mount (CG-5)

With the ADM or CG5, Celestron introduced a mount that is only at the first glance similar so cheap chinese parts in fact, the internal mechanical parts are from higher quality. Ball-beared axes and worm gears guarantee stiffness and precise tracking.

Thus offers a good base for observation and astro photography to the amateur astronomer.

Tripod:	Solid metal tube field tripod

Axis bearings:	The R.A. axis is ball beared

The ADM steel tube field tripod:

The ADM comes with a very solid tripod. Its maxiumum height is ca. 140 cm. Even then, it keeps is exceptional stability.

Payload capacity:

The ADM supports Newtonian telescopes up to 10" and refractors up to 6". Respectively, the mount can carry up to ca. 14 kg. For astro photography, we recommend to stay below this value.

The ADM's ball-beared worm gear:

EA precise worm gear bearing is essential as all forces to the telescope are directed into this gear. The more precise its bearings are, the more precise the tracking is.

Celestron Advanced Mount ADM - worm gear bearings

Even if a plastic slide bearing has minimal drawback, the tracking precision decreases. Ball bearings keep their precision even under high load and the worm gear interacts with the main gear always at the same angle. This means better tracking and less wear and less stress to the motor drive.
