Description
TELRAD - Zero Magnification Finder

.. an innovative alternative or addition to a normal optical finderscope ...

The Telrad is a very innovative finder and an attractive alternative to a regular finderscope. It is particularly easy to use and you still see the full sky in front of your eyes, not just a small part of the sky.

The Telrad can be used almost on any telescope:
The Telrad comes with a universal quick release base which you can mount on almost any telescope. The base can be mounted either with screws or simply with double-sided tape (recommended). It will fit on tubes with a widely varying diameter or even on flat surfaces.

All you need on the side of the telescope is a clear length of 17.5cm or longer to mount the base. The base can be left permanently mounted on the telescope and the Telrad can be removed with two thumbscrews.

Finding Objects with the Telrad:

The Telrad projects three rings (0.5°, 2° and 4°) onto a glass window. You look at the night sky through this window and you will see the unchanged sky, but with these three rings "hovering" in front of the stars. As soon as you have centered the object in the smallest ring you will find it in the field of view of your telescope.

You can align the reticle with three collimation screws to perfectly match your telescope.

Using the Telrad:
The operation of the Telrad is very simple. It has one lever at the side with which you can switch the reticle on or off and adjust the brightness. At the dimmest setting the rings will not cause any blinding effects even under a very dark sky.

Aligning the Telrad:
You can align the reticle with three collimation thumbscrews at the back of the Telrad. No tools are needed for the alignment.

Power Supply:
For power supply you can use a pair of AA 1.5V batteries or rechargeable batteries. They are stored under the sliding lid at the top of the Telrad. Batteries are not included in the scope of delivery.

Scope of Delivery:
-- Telrad zero magnification finder
-- quick release base with double-sided tape

Package: Deep Sky Reiseatlas + Telrad - a low cost alternative to GoTo

Observing Deep Sky Objects is a lot of fun and very exciting! But finding the objects is not everybody's idea of fun. At times it takes ages until you have located an object in the middle of the bewilderingly large number of stars. This is already unpleasant when you are alone, but doubly so if you want to share the observing experience with a friend or a visitor!

A very common result of this is that many observers limit themselves to a handful of objects (M13, M42, ...) which they can find blindly, but never get to see all the night-sky has to offer.

Or you can buy a GoTo telescope which will find the objects for you, but requires a lot of power and often creates a lot of noise.

We offer this innovative alternative:
The big advantage of this package is that it will work with any telescope and any mount. You only need the Telrad finder and the Deep Sky Reiseatlas star chart. The package is extremely easy to use and with a little practice you will probably be faster than any GoTo system! ................ Interested?

The Package consists of the Telrad zero magnification finder and the star chart "Deep Sky Reiseatlas":

Both the Telrad and the Deep Sky Reiseatlas are very useful accessories on their own. Used in combination they form a "dream team" for observers!

The Deep Sky Reiseatlas is a robust star chart with printed Telrad rings. As such all interesting deep sky objects are surrounded by three rings. The rings have exactly the same size as the rings in the Telrad finder.

Next to each object which is marked with rings you will always find one or more stars for orientation that can be seen with the naked eye. Just move the rings into the same position in relation to this star (or stars) and you will be able to intuitively find even such objects that cannot be directly seen.

Example:

Let us assume that a star can be seen in the Deep Sky Reiseatlas between the 2nd and 3rd ring at 9 o'clock. In this case just move the telescope until the real star will be on the same position in relation to the rings on the Telrad. Of course you need to take into consideration the orientation of the stars on the sky at this moment, but with a little practice this works almost without thinking and the entire procedure takes only a few seconds!

In our opinion this is a very nice alternative to a GoTo system. It is perfectly quiet, requires no electricity and with a little practice it takes less time, too!

You can find the Deep Sky Reiseatlas under "recommended accessories".

Dewcap for the Telrad

With its glass window unprotected the Telrad has a tendency to suffer from dew. The optional dewcap can prolong the period until dew can form or under normal utauen der Glasscheibe des Telrad. Die Tauschutzkappe ist für den Betrieb umklappbar.

Extra Base for the Telrad

If you want to use the Telrad on more than one telescope or on more than one position on one telescope then you can get extra bases for the Telrad. The bases are identical to the one which is included with the Telrad and can be mounted the same way.

Dewcap with integrated 90° mirror

This item has two functions at the same time. Like the normal dewcap it prevents the formation of dew.

But most importantly the integrated mirror can be used so that you no longer need to look through the Telrad straight through, but instead you can look through it at a relaxed 90° position.

Please note that this function will result in a mirror reversed image!

Telrad Riser Bases

With these parts you can lift the Telrad 50mm or 100mm above the tube for a more convenient observing position.

Telrad Pulser

The pulser offers a pulse-mode, or blinking mode, for the Telrad. This means that the reticle will appear and disappear in pulses, allowing you to see fainter stars.
