The EQ-5 is a sturdy base for observing with medium sized telescopes. It is still quite portable but much stronger than smaller mounts.

With the appropriate accessories the EQ-5 becomes a powerful mount for astro-imaging.

Load Capacity:

As always the actual stability of the mount will depend on several factors, such as the tube size, the wind, the ground on which the mount is set up. The weight of the instrument is only one single variable, so there is no "firm weight limit".

We recommend this mount for Newtonians up to approximately 200mm aperture, refractors up to approximately 150mm aperture or Schmidt-Cassegrains up to approximately 230mm aperture. On average the weight limit is about 8kgs.
