Description

TS Triplet APO 90mm Aperture - 600mm focal length - Carbon fiber tube - 2" TS Crayford focuser
... a premium quality APO refractor telescope with superb colour correction

TLAPO 90/600mm with carbon tube - with TS Crayford focuser
TL APO 906 with the optional Baader Steeltrack focuser. The refractor described here has a different focuser (see below).

A true APO refractor with superb colour correction - premium quality - top contrast and sharpness - The TLAPO906 offers features commonly found only in much more expensive APO refractors. False colour is not only reduced - like in many other so-called "APOs" - but is virtually eliminated. You will see virtually no false colour visually and photographically. Contrast and image sharpness are on the same high level. In our opinion the TLAPO906 is a match for some of the very best APOs on the market, even those on a much higher price level.

Light, Robust, Portable - Carbon Fiber Tube - the TLAPO 906 is so compact, it can follow you anywhere! With the retractable dewcap and moderate focal length the APO is ideal for travelling. The robust carbon fiber tube reduces the weight to only 3.5kgs, despite the triplet lens objective! With the dewcap retracted the APO is only about 50cm in length.
M31 Great Andromeda GalaxyVisual Astronomy with the TLAPO 906 - the excellent optics of the TLAPO provide stunning views on all astronomical objects. The moon can be seen with a contrast and sharpness that you will rarely find on a telescope - and virtually free from false colour. Planets can be viewed at high magnification and in splendid detail.

On deep sky objects you will be surprised what a compact refractor can show you! With its superb contrast you can see even very faint objects clearly. A particular strength of this short focal length refractor is rich-field observing, i.e. observing largest possible fields of view with low magnification. With the proper eyepieces you can see up to 4.5° of the sky - 9 times the diameter of the full moon! Stars will be perfect pinpoints - like diamonds on black velvet!

Nature Observing with the TLAPO 906 - The TLAPO is a perfect alternative to premium range spotting scopes, at only a fraction of the costs! With its much better versatility (just look at all the accessories you can get for this instrument), its perfect suitability for photography, and its image sharpness that even surpasses that of most premium spotting scopes, the TLAPO is the perfect companion for demanding birdwatchers.

Astro-Imaging with the TL APO 906 - one of the big strengths of this wonderful telescope! Even very bright stars will not have a false colour fringe around them. Stars are pinpoints with high contrast. Up to 15mm image circle no field flattener is needed. For large sensor CCD cameras and for DSLR cameras we recommend the use of our 2" field flattener. With the TS flattener you will get perfect results throughout the entire field of view! If you buy the flattener along with this telescope we can offer it to you at a reduced price of only 199.- Euros................................... Link to the TS Field Flattener
APO refractor 90/600mm - CF tube - 2 inch TS Crayford focuserTS Optics 2" Crayford focuser for the TLAPO 906

The TS Optics focuser is a good match for this telescope. It is sturdy enough for most applications and offers a smooth focusing motion due to its integrated dual speed 1:10 microfocuser.

Both 1.25" and 2" accessories are held securely in place with brass compression rings..

The focuser is well suited for primarily visual use of the telescope, but can also be used very well for astro imaging. If you intend to do astro imaging frequently you might want to consider the parallel model of this telescope which is equipped with the Baader Steeltrack focuser.
Apochromatic triplet lens of the TL APO906 refractorThe Apochromatic Triplet Lens of the TLAPO 906

The new Triplet lens offers a fully apochromatic performance. Through use of high quality FPL-53 ED glass from Ohara (Japan) a very consistent quality is guaranteed.

In the spot diagram below you can see how well the TL906 is corrected!

Of course the lens is fully multi-coated for a bright and clear image.

A Photographical Review of the TLAPO906:

Manfred Holocek tested this APO under real-life conditions and submitted to us a very conclusive photographical review of the telescope. Thank you very much!

Image Quality of the TS Optics TLAPO 906 - SPOT diagrams and star test:

Spot Diagram of the Triplet APO 90/600mm refractor

The Spot Diagram is ideal for judging the colour correction of a telescope, not only on the optical axis, but also off axis. The black rings are the airy discs. As you can see all wavelengths between 500nm and 700nm are kept inside the airy disc. Off axis (second line: 1/4°, third line: 1/2°) the colour is still very well corrected - just compare this with some very expensive APOs that might cost a lot more than the TLAPO!

Star test of the Triplet APO 906 refractor

The Star Test on our artificial star is equivalent to the image of a real star at a magnification around 200x. But please note that our artificial star works in autocollimation. This means that whatever optical defects there are, you will see the effects twice as strongly as on a real star!

Images from left to right:

-- far inside of focus
-- slightly inside of focus
-- a focused medium magnitude star (around 5-6 mag)
-- a focused bright star (e.g. Vega)
-- slightly outside focus
-- far outside focus

As you can see false colour is virtually nonexistent in focus. You can also see that the star is well centered. This also shows that the lens is not pinched inside its cell.

Dominik Dierick writes:

I have not been able to do photographic testen with the refractor
since I don't have the flattener yet... but here are my first

observations:

This is the first budget apo I have seen which really screams! Build quality, certainly with the FT is excellent.

Startest is more than adequate for normal use, stars are tacksharp and virtually colorfree indeed. I had a look at Mars at 216x (using a TMB 5mm with TMB barlow) and boy, was I in for a surprise. Excellent contrast, color and sharpness. Not a hint of softness on the planet.

Likely 250x or even more won't be a problem. Since I put it on my
wiliam optics mount, I didn't push it higher cuz no tracking.

I don't know how much Strehl it is, but I don't care, it is just very, very good.
