You have compact Maksutov or Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and you're looking for a compact and transportable GoTo mount? Eventually with the option of astro photography? Then, the NexStar SE2 is an interesting alternative to German equatorial mounts.

The NexStar SE2 main characteristics:

-- Vixen GP style dovetail clamp for quick telescope attachement/detachement and balancing
-- Carries short systems up to ca. 20cm (8") aperture, e.g. C8
-- Sets up very quickly - within minutes, the computer control is sky aligned.
-- More than 40'000 objects are stored in the controller's data base and can be accessed quickly with the fast servo motors.

Advantages in comparison with German equatorial mounts:
There's no need for counter weights and the SE2 is highly transportable in one hand. This is often essential for airline travelling where every kg extra weight can become very expensive.

Sky Align - the easy way to adjust the GoTo system

"Sky Align" is the new alignment procedure by Celestron. It is very user friendly:

Step 1: Enter Date, Time and Location into the control box
Step 2: Point the telescope at three bright celestial objects using the arrow keys (Moon and Planets are also possible). You
don't have to know them - centering is enough!

And you're ready! The NexStar can now point to any object that's chose from the data base as long as it is above the horizon.

Astro photography with the NexStar SE2:

A special advantage of the NexStar SE2 is the possibility of astro photography.

When an alt/azimuthal mount is used (even with a tracking system) for astro photograpy, the exposure times are limited to approx. 30 seconds. Above this value, field rotation occurs. For the SE2, a sturdy polar wedge is available optionally (See left picture). It turns your alt/az mount into a fully usable equatorial mount with all of its benefits. Of course, the GoTo functionality is the same.

These features turn the SE2 into a powerful and transportable astronomical platform for smaller telescopes or telephoto lenses.

Software aided polar alignment for equatorial mode:
- "Wedge-Align" - no polar viewfinder is necessary!
- After the standard star alignment, choose "Wedge align" menue.
- The telescope slews to the point where Polaris should be.
- Now, center the pole star with the Azimuth and Altitude controls of the polar wedge. Ready!

With our TS double mount ("Doppelbefestigung S"), two systems can be used parallel. For instance, a camera with tele lens and a guiding scope!

Ideal when a compact travel system is needed!

Celestron's NexStar SE2 is always ready for use when only a small amount of space is available - e.g. for hiking, airline travelling etc. You don't need heavy counterweights but you have a complete GoTo system.
