DMK 21AG04.AS - GigE

High Speed Astronomical CCD Camera

  • Monochrome camera without IR cut filter
  • 1/4" CCD, Progressive Scan
  • Resolution 640 x 480 pixels
  • Max. 60 fps
  • Max. exposure time 60 min
  • Software included (further info below)
  • Telescope adaptation: C-Mount thread
  • incl. 1.25" adaptor with filter thread
  • incl. 10m GigE cable and power supply

Optional IR cut filter: See "recommended accessories"
  • Up to 60 frames per second

The monochrome camera DMK 21 has an ultra-fast 60 frames per second, making it one of the fastest cameras of its kind. This makes the camera ideally suited for monochrome astro-imaging with a very high frame-rate, e.g. for planetary or lunar imaging. The included software IC Capture.AS saves the stream free of comprimation losses as AVI file.

    Monochromes Sony® CCD

The Astro-CCD camera DMK 21 uses the Sony monochrome Progressive Scan CCD ICX098BL. With a diagonal of 1/4" it offers a resolution of 640 x 480 Pixels. Even at long exposure times the noise level is very low. Due to its high quality the ICX098BL is frequently used for industrial applications.

    No compression, no filtering

The DMK 21 CCD camera uses neither data compression nor an IR cut filter, colour filter or any kind of electronical filtering. This allows for maximum sensitivity and very "original" photos of the skies.

    Fast Data-Transfer via GigE

The astronomy camera DMK 21AG04.AS generates a high rate of uncompressed monochrome images. In order to transfer these to the host PC, a very fast bus is required. Hence, the camera is fitted with a GigE connector.

    Included Software for Windows®

The camera comes with the driver IC WDM DCAM TIS and the operating software IC Capture.AS. Detailed information on this can be found below under Software.

    Recommended accessories:

-- adaptors for telescopes and for various accessories

Software - included in the scope of delivery:

This camera includes a driver sofware as well as the operating program IC Capture.AS. Both softwares are made for Windows 2000 and XP.

    Windows drivers for the camera

The necessary drivers for operating the camera on Windows® 2000, Windows® XP and Windows Vista. With this driver the cameras are DirectX compatible. This allows you to use the cameras with any DirectX compatible astro-imaging software.

    Software requirements

    - Pentium IV, 2.0 GHz, 512 MB RAM
    - 24 or 32 Bit Graphics
    - Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit)
    - DirectX 9.0c or higher

    IC Capture.AS - Operating Software

IC Capture.AS was developed by The Imaging Source specifically for their astronomical cameras. The software is included with each astronomical camera. IC Capture.AS allows you to:

    • set and change all camera parameters,
    • view a live image from the camera,
    • select single frames and save them as BMP or JPG file,
    • save sequences of single frames as automatically numbered BMP or JPG files,
    • save film sequences free of compression losses as AVI files for further processing with e.g. RegiStax.

Please keep in mind that the system should have the same standard as a DTP or video computer (fast processor, separate fast hard drive for storing data) especially when recording fast sequences of frames.

    Recording AVI files:

    • For compressed AVI files without data loss select one of the Codecs offered by your operating system, e.g. DivX.
    • For non compressed AVI files select one of the codecs supplied by Imaging Source (uncompressed Y800, uncompressed RGB24, uncompressed RGB32, uncompressed UYVY).

    Compatible Softwares:

    RegiStax (Windows®)

RegiStax is able to read non compressed AVI files generated with the IC Capture.AS software (see "Recording AVI Files").

    Astro IIDC (Mac OS)

The Astro IIDC software can be used to operate all Imaging Source FireWire astronomical cameras with Mac OS.
