Double tube mount adapter for mounts of 3" dovetail connection

The large 3" double clamp allows the parallel connection of two tubes on one mount. Especially for astrophotography this stable way of parallel mounting is very popular.

Advantages of this double mount:

The mount gets less stress due to the advantageous leverage. The overall rigidity increases, as the guide scope is much nearer to the centre of gravity of the mount in comparison to a piggyback installation on the main scope.

To lower the burden of the mount, the TS double mount as been designed to be very lightweight. Furthermore the mount is very flat, which improves the leverage situation.

Connection at the mount side:

On the mount side the TS double mount bears a solid aluminum dovetail bar which fits to all standard mounts on the market which bear a 3" connection. This bar is with 60 cm length quite long, hence you get also quite large tubes mounted in parallel together.

Compatible mounts include

-- Losmandy GM 8, G 11 or Titan
-- Celestron CGE
-- Large 3" Baader dovetail prism clamp
-- Gemini ( with original quick release )

Connections at the telescope side:

At the telescope end the TS double mount bears one 3" dovetail clamp of Williams Optics and a solid 2" dovetail clamp (GP/EQ standard fit). So you can install the heavy main instrument using the 3" dovetail while for the smaller guide scope the GP standard dovetail will to it's job.

Each Williams clamp is reworked by TS to assure it is compatible to all 3" dovetail bars mentioned. Baader and Losmandy bars tend to get stuck in the original clamps, while our remachined versions guarantee a precise fit.

You can connect your telescope at each of the dovetail clamps as you usually attach it to the mount directly.

How to balance the telescope:

In contrast to the usual piggyback guidescope mounting method you can bring the system into equilibrium easily when using the double mount.

1. Balance the telescopes by moving them back or forwards in their tube rings.

2. Balance the whole system by aligning the dovetail at the mount until there is no imbalance any more.

3. Finally align the imbalance by the counterweights.

.... and the astrophotography session can begin !
