Skywatcher Dobsonian 8

A Dobsonian telescope offers the best optical performance for you money. 90% of the value are concentrated in the optical tube assembly (mirror cell, focuser etc.). So you get much aperture for a good price.

Skywatcher Dobsonians are well crafted and will bring observing fun for many years to you. At Teleskop-Service, a Dobsonian is no dead-end-street. We offer all possible optional equipment like equatorial mounts, dozens of eyepieces, and even equipment for astro photography.

The SKD8's optical system has 8" (203mm) aperture. The light gathering power equals 816x the human eye. Faint Galaxies, Nebulae and minor planets can be observed. The relatively small secondary mirror (50mm diameter) gives only 25% obstruction and the optimized spider vanes lead to high contrast even at strong magnifications e.g. for lunar and planetary observations. So you can see tiny craters on the moon, cloud details on Jupiter or the structure of Saturn's ring system.

The mirror substrate Pyrex offers less thermic expansion and therefore faster cool-down time compared with float glass or BK7. After this process, all kinds of mirror substrate have equal optical quality. The advantage of Pyrex is only the less time it needs to be ready-for-use. For this telescope, Skywatcher guarantees diffraction-limited performance which is equal to 1/4 Lambda PV.

Skywatcher Dobson Rockerbox with tension control

Horizontal and vertical adjustment of the SKD8 is very easy. It has gliding bearings in both axes. The telescope remains stable - just point, release and observe. Vertical adjustment is aided by the "tension control" system (see picture above). Here, you can adjust for the stiffness in this axis and even lock it.

The 2" Crayford focuser

This Dobsonian has a smooth and precise 2" focser with a reducer to 1.25". So you can use any astronomical eyepiece. It is the better Crayford design for more precision and stability.
